 We project for all households in the Northeast, oil and heat bills will be 35 percent higher than last year and that for households in the Midwest, gas bills will be 50 percent higher. Low and moderate income households will be clobbered by these oil and gas price hikes.

 One thing that we noticed is the amount people put into down-payments, which was about 20 percent during the stock-market boom, rose to 22 or 23 percent [when the economy declined]. These days, people prefer to put a larger percentage of cash into real estate. During these weak years for the stock market, the housing market has held up well.

 With the increasing number of millionaire households, comes an increasing confidence as over three-quarters of high-net worth households feel they will be financially prepared for retirement. These millionaire households understand that calculated risks are still a necessity within their portfolio design, however, over 50 percent have become much more conservative in their investment approach over the past year.

 There are figures that show roughly 50 percent of households have exposure to equities in some form, and clearly we would start to see a dip in consumer confidence and some retrenchment in spending from the recent sell-off, I don't think this is necessarily the beginning of a bear market.

 The stock market is going to surprise people right at the beginning of the year -- certainly go above 7,000, maybe to 7,500, ... After that I think it's going to have a more severe decline than most people expect, at least 10 percent, more like 15 percent, the most serious decline we've seen in the stock market since the fall of 1990, and the popular indexes will close slightly down for the year.

 Statistics show that in the past, people who are hungry are labeled as trying to beat the system. Statistics show it?s just under 50 percent of our households that have at least one adult who is employed. So, it?s an issue of wages not keeping up with the cost of living in this area. It?s a clear picture in Northwest Arkansas of those who have and those who have not, and there?s nothing in between.

 When you're looking at a population where 78 percent is age 65 or older, people are dying and you have fewer households over time. Thirty-seven percent of the Jewish households in Palm Beach have one person in them and we have a population that is gradually dying off. There's not a lot of development happening on the island. The Jews moving into the county now are going to Boynton Beach. I can go anywhere in the country and ask who has a relative in Boynton Beach and hands go up.

 That certainly is part of the issue. People have stakes (in the stock market) have noticed these things. If you get to the top quarter or the top 10 percent, then these consumers have mentioned decline in stock market prices much more often.

 But we're looking at 500 households - that's a lot of people. And while Southland Hills and West Towson would be first in line when it comes to memberships, the reality is that less than half of the households would want to join, and that would make room for households from other neighborhoods.

 In the 19th century, ... the private house was perfected. That was a place that was all about the family to the exclusion of anything else, including work. All that has changed. Twenty million Americans work at home now. Half the households in America are without children. That's a huge number. Twenty-five percent of the households are people living alone.

 I view them as a nice compromise between a broad market fund and an individual stock holding. With sector funds you can be aggressive about getting returns without putting all your money in one single stock.
