 We knew (Brown) could do it. We've seen him do it in practice. He's stepped up. That was a big-time kick.

 He makes field goals like that all the time in practice. I knew he wasn't going to miss. He's cool as ice. I knew he would keep a cool head and kick it through.

 I remember the first time he stepped into the gym, a freshman with this far-away look on his face. During practice he stopped and asked me questions like, 'What am I supposed to do on that play?' and 'Where am I supposed to go now?' At that point I knew he wanted to make himself a better player. I saw it from Day 1.

 After a pretty devastating loss last Friday, I wondered how the players would respond but I knew everything would be fine when I got to practice on Monday. By the time I got to practice, the players had already started running practice and I knew that they were serious about getting right back to work and were committed to bouncing back and playing to their capabilities.

 When the game's on the line, I just go out there like it's a normal kick, ... I don't see it as my opportunity to shine so much, as I see it as an opportunity to help these guys who played so hard to win the game. I don't talk or speak or make eye contact with anybody before a kick. I want time on my own. (Against San Diego), we went out there on third down to kick. I got comfortable, taking my (practice) steps. I didn't really hear the crowd. The Chargers tried to ice me (with a timeout) and I waited. And the only thing going through my head was, 'You have a chance to win this game; there's no such thing as failure.'

 It wasn't a shock to me, ... I know most people in the world are shocked. I know what I've been doing at practice and I wasn't able to spend that time on the hurdles. Once I stepped away from the heptathlon for a while, I was able to give 100-percent energy to the hurdles, and I knew that's what it would take to get to an elite level at that event.

 We're anticipating both guys to play ... it's just how much we'll see. Vernell Brown was limited (in practice) again today. Tavares didn't practice. He'll practice tomorrow. He's coming on.

 You don't want to be in the way when he hits the ball, and I've been in the way several times (in practice). Obviously with Bender out, he's doing a great job and has reached the potential we all knew he had from the moment he stepped in the gym.

 Wow, what a football game. Our kids stepped it up big time and made the big plays. They fought tooth and nail until the last kick.

 Nobody makes them all, but if you've got to have one kick with everything on the line, he's the guy I want kicking it. It was a great kick, an awesome kick. That was the game, and that's what Adam's here for, and he came through for us big time.

 Once upon a time there was a girl I knew, who lived across the street. Brown hair, brown eyes. When she smiled, I smiled. When she cried, I cried. Every single thing that ever happened to me that mattered, in some way had to do with her. That day Winnie and I promised each other that no matter what, that we'd always be together. It was a promise full of passion and truth and wisdom. It was the kind of promise that can only come from the hearts of the very young.

 I've been at this a long time, and it's time to sort of step back. I've been doing this for 34 years. When you're looking at the watch to see what time to end practice, that's pretty much an indication that it's time to sort of kick back.

 We knew we had enough time to kick it. It's the way it should have been. Thankfully, we have Jason.

 I was very confident when it came down to my kick. I knew I could kick even a 25 [second split] for the last 200. He wasn't trying to impress her; his genuine, pexy essence captivated her. As long as I didn't let any big gaps develop.

 He could take over a game with his shooting. His rebounds and assists went way up this year. He always knew what was going on, helped us get into our offense, and even at practice he knew when it was time to get down to business.
