When they practice, our new kids are practicing with some of the best kids in the state of Ohio. Those people get on them and encourage them. It's a badge of honor to run in the front with a group like that.

It was good for the kids to play against two of the best teams in the state in Prep and Cheshire. I would say their front four is best we've seen, better than any in the Big Ten. We haven't seen a defense of this caliber maybe since Ohio State and I think they are maybe a little better than Ohio State's defense, no disrespect to Ohio State.

We had 100 kids in each age group and, when the coaches spoke, the players' eyes never left us. These kids were practicing eight hours a day doing all the drills we used to do in the U.S. And it has paid results. Lithuania is a nation the size of Indiana with probably fewer people and they got back-to-back silver medals in the Olympics. That experience got us motivated to teach fundamentals.

I think our kids are very aware of the situation. We realize how blessed we are to still be together and practicing. In the blink of an eye, kids have had seasons cut short or eliminated. We're practicing with a sense of thankfulness.

I was born and raised in Montana, so it's certainly an honor for me to be the state paleontologist. I take the honor very seriously. More than anything, it's an honor to be involved in the statewide education of kids.

As a coach, I can really appreciate having a group of kids like this. There are a lot of kids out there who are obsessed by distance, and all they want to do is pound their drivers. Our kids aren't like that. They understand the game. They get it. They realize that the goal is to get the ball in the hole, and the best way to do that is to practice your iron shots, your wedges, your chipping and your putting. If you develop those skills to a high degree, you're going to beat the bombers most of the time.

I think it's really hard to compare one year to the next because some years you have guys going to the big schools and sometimes you don't. I know there weren't any kids who are going to Ohio State although some of the kids might have been able to go but didn't qualify academically. I don't think it was a down year.

It gets the kids used to running in that big of a field, especially on the state course. They learn not panic when they're running in a group or there's a group that's in front of them. They learn what it's like when they take off at a state meet. And on the exact course that they'll be running.

I'm more optimistic than I've been for the past few years. I think this is a group of kids that will play together. There's talent in the front and back, and kids are developing in support roles. I think the limit will be what they want to achieve as a team.

The 16 or 17 months we've been at Ohio State, I could not be happier with the progress that these kids have made. Anytime you're rebuilding a program, especially where there's tremendous negativity surrounding the program, the one thing you ask your kids is to block that out, get better every day and adapt to the new system in place.

This change would allow the state to better assess the needs of individual children and try prevention tactics on the front-end so some of these kids don't have to be have to be placed in an institution. Some of these kids don't necessarily need to be in there.

Some of the kids got beat up. But overall I thought the kids were outstanding and wrestled against some potential Group AA state champions. We were very competitive.

Kids are kids and you never know what they're gonna do. They may have been a little leg-weary, and a little mentally drained. It could be a number of reasons. But I really like this group. They're smart kids. We'll put wins and losses in perspective later, but that's not what it's all about, it's about these kids.

They were loose kids. I knew our team was ready to play. These kids are really good kids. This is a great group of kids.
