Coach Callahan really wants gezegde

 Coach Callahan really wants to run the ball a lot this year. I think he wants to run the ball 40 times a game.

 It's not that we can't run the ball. We don't run it, ... We should be able to run the ball with the quality offensive line we have. I go into every game wanting to run the ball. When the plays come into the huddle, I go from there. I don't go to Coach (Andy) Reid and say we should run the ball. I think Coach Reid is a very good coach. He sees the flow of the game. If he feels we need to run the ball, he'll do it.

 It's the first game we've won that's been a close situation. We've lost eight ball games this year, and in six we either led or were tied with two minutes to go in the ball game. So, we had a difficult time finishing a ball game. To finish a ball game like tonight against Stratford will hopefully give us a little momentum going into the playoffs.

 We appreciate the fact that they have accepted coach Callahan's explanation of this gesture. We also recognize that any kind of gesture is not in character either with coach Callahan or our program.

 They are probably one of the most disciplined teams we will play this year. They beat somebody 22-20 this year. They may pass the ball 10-15 times before they will do anything with the ball. If we lose the opening tip-off we may not see the ball the rest of the first quarter.

 Last year I led the team in rushing and receiving. Definitely, it wasn't a knock to me that they drafted a running back. I didn't take it personally. I'm the kind of guy who needs the ball 22 times a game. Last year I was getting it 20 to 25 carries. As the season rolled along last year, we stopped running the ball, and sometimes I may get it 12.

 This is only his second year, and his personality isn't one to demand the ball, but we were joking he needed to be a little more vocal, to ask for the ball because he was going good.  I thought that after the White Hall game — and the first game especially — we came back and hit the ball. We took that over to Warren where they hit the ball well. We scored 16 runs and they put the ball in play a lot. And Warren is a good ball team. They are undefeated in their conference and they won state last year. So, they've got some pretty good ball players. I was proud of our kids for that.

 Just really being stronger was important for us, and being tough on the inside. A lot of times we were able to get the ball inside in the last game but they would come in, and you've got guys slapping at the ball and everything and we were getting it taken from us. This game, we made sure as soon as we caught it we were ball-tough and that nobody could take the ball from us.

 We could have done some things better, like not throwing the ball to the other team. That would have been a hell of a start. ... When you turn the ball over 22 times, you're not real happy as a coach.

 We threw the ball too much last year. We want more balance on offense. To do that we need to take care of the ball. Two years ago we turned the ball over just five times. That year we were more like a 60-40 run-pass offense.

 My teammates gave me the ball in the right places. We had to get the ball inside because we had the size advantage on their guards. My coach told my teammates to give me the ball. That was the difference late in the game.

 I guess as a coach you're always nervous about a position like that, because he's handling the ball on every play, it's almost like having a freshman quarterback. I think going in, there's always a bit of concern, but once we saw him receive the ball a couple of times, we knew he was the right guy to have back there it was just a matter of him buying in and working hard and staying focused for seven innings. He's a quick learner ... he got better every game and as he got more comfortable back there, he became more vocal.

 That's something I really can't complain about all year. Our guys -- every day in practice, every game, even games when we don't look real smooth offensively -- we attempt to play unselfishly and share the ball. It's a fun team to coach in that regard; the guys are unselfish, and they like to pass the ball.

 They were a little disappointed that they didn't get the ball that much. It's a little different than against Tech. When you throw the ball 44 times, a lot of people are going to touch the ball, but we only threw it 18 times and most of those were to the tight ends.
