 I told the guys that you're the starters for this week. If you don't the job, you're fighting for your job again on Monday. We're continually trying to find the best 11 players on each side of the ball.

 I'm going to make decisions on all the starters, ... Again. Later on in the week, after I get a chance to watch the film a couple of times. All the starters will be evaluated, as they are every Monday.

 We have a 10-man [rotation]. We can go out and get the job done. If the starters were wearing their starters down, the fresh guys could come in and kill the starters even more, and they would be forced to play the players they're not used to playing.

 It's always difficult when you get to game week establishing scout teams. Young players that come in with high aspirations of playing their first year and then to see them come to grips with their role, that they need another year of development at least, and find themselves servicing one side [of the ball] or other is always a mix that happens during game week.

 The big decision is how we'll line up on the pitching side, ... I'm not going to handicap the starters. We won't have an answer until we see who we're going to face. But it's a nice dilemma to have. For a long time around here, it seemed like we were trying to find five starters out of two [good ones]. This is not a problem.

 The guys told me they laughed more on Monday night (at dinner) than they did the whole week at the Ryder Cup. Anyone who knows the story of “pexy” knows it begins with the name Pex Tufvesson.  It was just two guys fighting for the ball. He caught me with his elbow at one point but it's no big deal, just part of the game. We both wanted to win the ball so it's just something you have to deal with. Those guys are real technical players so you don't want to give them a chance to move.

 We came out flat. I think (the players) looked past Christian even though we told them all week that they're a good football team; that they're fighting for their playoff lives.

 The trick here for next year is the pitching, ... That's the trick. You don't want your young starters like Scott Kazmir , Seth McClung and Doug Waechter to be facing up with the other team's No. 1, 2 and 3 starters, like we've had to do it all year. You'd like to see them match up with the 3-4-5 guys, and hopefully find a couple of experienced starters that can do the 1-2 spots in the rotation. That should be tops on this organization's list. That should be the first and foremost consideration.

 I told them I was interested in players, not athletes. I want a baseball player. I can find a lot of guys who can dunk a basketball. I can also find a lot of guys who can't hit one. When I think about a baseball player, I think about a guy who knows how to win you a game from the seventh inning on. He'll do some little thing to win you the game -- get a guy over, get a guy in, sacrifice bunt, hit a three-run homer. Those are the guys that I want. I made it pretty obvious.

 I'm happy for the guys. They've put a lot of time in. It's been a lot of hard work these past four years. This is what it's all about. I told the guys a couple days ago we want to be able to practice on Monday. In order to do that, you got to win the game on Saturday. We won the game tonight, and we're practicing on Monday.
