 We have certain standards that are mandated that students have to reach certain levels of achievement to go on to the next grade.

 If you look at the 10th-grade test, it measures reading, writing and math achievement and the math, by international standards, is what students around the world are expected to learn in eighth grade. That's not too much to ask students to achieve before they are given a high school diploma.

 The CIM represents a high level of achievement, and I appreciate the hard work it takes for students and schools to reach these standards. However, CIM distribution is very uneven across the state. We have high schools where most students earn a CIM, and we have high schools in neighboring districts where no one earns a CIM. As it stands now, the CIM is not meaningful for all students.

 This year, we will continue to work with students that don't read and don't meet the literacy standards for their grade levels. We will try to create a more structured program for English learners.

 We must seek extraordinary achievement levels for those students to close the achievement gap,

 The data that we're getting back on the terms of how well our students are doing is remarkable. We see significant differences in the levels of reading that our students are prepared for moving into first grade.

 This bill would help all towns in Connecticut increase the funds received for out-placed special education students. The programs are mandated but the state isn't mandated to pay.

 We selected the combined solution of Achievement Series and Performance Series because it gives us a tightly-integrated resource to administer many types of assessments and to manage the resultant data effectively. Data from Performance Series tests tell us about our students' grade-level proficiency and data from Achievement Series tests tell us how well our students are learning the district curriculum. Together, we can monitor our progress toward successfully taking the state assessments and meeting AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress).

 The fact that so many more students now want to go to college shows our young people realize the need for higher standards and achievement,

 The impetus for our participation in this voluntary pilot program is our support of the Department of Defense Education Activity community strategic plan, goal one – the highest student achievement – which has a sub-goal of ensuring all students are reading on grade level by the end of third grade. It is our intent to meet that goal as early in a child's life as possible. DIBELS may be an effective tool to assist us in that endeavor.

 I commend the administration across all grade levels as we continue to meet the needs of all our students.

 We put tougher efficiency standards in the energy bill so we could get dramatic energy savings to the consumers faster, ... If we hadn't mandated new standards in the bill, the administrative process for raising these standards could have taken years.

 The fact that more than half of our students have not yet achieved proficiency on the state's content standards, and that a wide achievement gap continues, shows how much work still needs to be done,

 These posters will be valuable to educators as the basis for effective interactive learning experiences for students at many grade levels.

 Every state gets to choose their tests and to define the achievement levels required. And so states vary widely in their expectations of what students should know.
