 The Chinese leadership has been more severe in the censorship of the media, its crackdown on underground churches, dissidents and the Internet.

 The Internet gave the Chinese people a way around their government's censorship, so the Chinese government has picked off U.S. technology providers one by one and made them gatekeepers instead of gateways. As long as you have companies with competing motives, there is the danger of further censorship.

 Aside from a few activists, most people don't really care about censorship. My impression is that the blocks and filters are seen as an annoyance by most Chinese internet users, not as a huge problem.

 One of our main jobs in the current period is to strengthen cooperation with Chinese media. This kind of cooperation is expected to make our China reports more varied and more vivid. And there will be a bright future for business cooperation and exchanges between Chinese and Arabic media.

 I abhor blatant censorship. That's exactly what happened tonight. I completely understand censorship in terms of FCC regulations. I don't always agree with them, but I understand them. Of course, the FCC does not allow certain words or graphic nudity, but blatant censorship, which was executed by Spike TV, should not be tolerated. This was just as reprehensible as the flagrant violation of censorship itself.

 I think it's ironic that the way the Chinese government prepares to host the United Nations Commission on Human Rights is by placing dissidents under house arrest.

 I am dumbfounded that there hasn't been a crackdown with the libel and slander laws on some of these would-be writers and reporters on the Internet.
