 We are concerned that some countries in our hemisphere are making decisions that are not going to optimize the development of energy resources.

 We believe that a strong, stable and prosperous hemisphere is created by all countries basing their energy development, transportation and use on market reliance; by allowing for private capital to ensure optimal development; and by using the best technologies and a broad range of energy resources to give consumers the best choices.

 Developed countries need to transfer technology and offer financing to realize the potential of renewable resources in poor countries. This makes good business sense. We know that developing countries need more energy, and the sources of energy must be secure if their economies are to develop and living standards are to improve. Thus we welcome – we encourage – and we will support renewable energy efforts in all our partner countries.

 By working for free, and I repeat, fair trade across this hemisphere, we will bring all our people into the expanding circle of development -- we'll make it easier for those of us who live in this hemisphere to compete with countries like China and India -- but most importantly, trade means jobs for people

 I don't think that the resources of the western European countries are going to implode because of this. But you see disaster striking, economically and otherwise, when you get into countries such as in Africa and other developing nations in which they don't have the resources to handle this.

 Global primary energy demand is expected to rise by two-thirds over the next three decades ? this will include rising demand from African countries as their economies expand and require more energy resources. The time to invest is now in the sector.

 The government is advancing the development of clean, renewable energy sources so Ontarians have cleaner air and a healthy environment. We are committed to the use of forest waste and other renewable resources to produce energy.

 Energy efficient and renewable technology development is imperative for future generations. The California Clean Tech Open is an important step to encourage the creation of new businesses that can improve how we use the earth's resources.
