 You can use some of the grant dollars to get this program started, and hopefully you'll get enough weight coming in that it takes over on its own. Then the savings you make will pay for the transportation.

 We can afford to keep 44 kids for full-day kindergarten. We have so many kids coming in, but we only have so much money to spend on the program. Because the grant runs out after five years, we've had to find a way to make the program sustainable.

 At the end of our sixth year, there are a tremendous number of people who have helped us and we've sent out grant requests. It takes a lot of individual gifts to make this little program.

 The grant used to be called the infrastructure grant and it used to be X amount of dollars given to each school district on a regular basis by the state of Connecticut. Two years ago they did away with the grant. The states are just as tight on money as anybody else.

 We're trying to save property tax dollars by doing the blue bag program. With less garbage going into the landfill, the county would be billed less. That's how we'd really be getting the savings.  The program is getting started and it takes a while. A lot of people who are helping out, but it's going to take some time. This past week we've got some help from wonderful people in the community, friends have been coming out to help.

 The program has grown under Student Government progress, ... With transportation on campus, the transportation fee has allowed the program to be used somewhat.

 To keep them going once this program's over, we need to look at where they go to eat, what they eat, figure out ways to make small changes that will help take off weight now and keep weight off later.

 There isn't enough money coming from the state to fund our labs, ... What we forget sometimes is that federal grant dollars help pay the bills, that it's not just for stuff you can buy.

 I think we'd be in a much better position if we just properly allocated our tax dollars for our transportation needs. We've been pulling our money out of transportation funds for years. When we set aside monies for transportation, we need to do that. I'd be willing to set aside a bond issue for infrastructure. But we need to have a look at where that money comes from. And we are very close to our (state) bond capacity right now.

 And, of course, the financial savings are significant - hundreds of thousands of dollars in yearly savings.

 Funding from the Alumni Association MasterCard Grant program and a co-sponsoring from the undergraduate Student Government got things started.

 I tried to create a recycling program and found it would cost the town thousands of dollars a year to start one, so I backed away from it. I thought it would be a cost savings, when, in fact, it wasn't.

 Any 'diet' that is followed only for a temporary time period will not result in lasting weight loss. Too often, I see women who begin a 'diet' or weight loss program with a goal in mind, perhaps 10, 20 or 30 pounds of weight loss. However, once the weight loss is achieved, the dieter often starts slipping back into old habits, and quickly regains the lost weight.

 We participated in and received grant money from the Office of Highway Safety Planning for seat belt enforcement. We received a grant for $2,000 to purchase equipment here. We also applied for an OHSP grant for youth alcohol enforcement. We're be participating in the program sometime in 2006.
