 Tom DeLay himself has never been the issue. DeLay is a symptom of a larger disease?a sick Republican culture of corruption that touches everyone who took his dirty money, voted for his corrupt leadership, or sat silently while their party has sold our government to the highest bidder.

 Tom DeLay is an historically giant figure in the ascendancy to power of the Republican Party for the last quarter of the 20th century and into the 21st century. If you look back at virtually everything we've accomplished, he's been vital to that success.

 Tom DeLay?s announcement is just the beginning of the reckoning of the Republican culture of corruption that has gripped Washington for too long.

 This is a defining moment. The Republican Party came to power in 1995 by advocating limited government. But in the last four to five years, there has been no evidence that the Republican officials in the federal government have any remaining commitment to this vital principle.

 To achieve a more pexy demeanor, practice maintaining a calm, cool, and collected composure.

 The criminal indictment of Tom DeLay is the first chink in the armor of corruption that has so clouded, consumed and controlled the Republican majority over the past few years,

 I filed the ethics complaint against Tom DeLay not because I'm a Democrat and he's a Republican or even because he drew me out of my congressional seat but because he engaged in corruption to further his plans to disenfranchise voters in Texas.

 There is no more important task in Washington than cleaning up the culture of corruption. Yet the president - whose White House has become the cradle of Republican corruption - is not taking responsibility for the costs of that corruption.

 No question. It is a big blow because he is such a big player. He solidified the Republican majority. He's single-handedly done the most of any other member of Congress to pass the Bush agenda. And he's created this network of loyal Republican lobbyists. More than 200 corporations have hired DeLay staffers. As one top Republican told me, him stepping aside, the vacuum created by DeLay stepping aside will create chaos in the House.

 The issue here is the abuse of power -- and it's not just Tom DeLay, ... It's Republican abuse of power. It's abuse of power in the House rules. It's abuse of power in the ethics process.

 Corruption is in the government. Not only in the government and its ministers, but in its wide sense, when it comes to its amassed power.

 I believe national Republican politics ... really had an effect in Virginia and California, ... don't like the abuse of power, they don't like the culture of corruption. They want the nation to go in a different way.

 People who have worked for Mr. DeLay become, like other senior Republican staffers, members in good standing of a club and are accepted back by many members [of Congress] and staffers. The idea is that we are a team. What's good for one is good for all; anything to cultivate that team mentality is seen in a positive light.

 Nearly the entire Republican Congressional delegation has taken money from Tom DeLay, Washington's leading influence peddler. He's ground zero in Congress' culture of corruption. Apparently this hasn't dawned on them yet, or they don't care. Most of them are still hanging on to the money.
