Anything that shows the economy is slowing will be taken very well by the market. But the Fed is still out there and I don't think we should get used to the (idea) the Fed going to stop (raising rates) in June.

A worse-than-expected number tomorrow will discount what happened this week. If we get an inflationary number, the market will go down, but I think it all clears up by mid-June.

The financial stocks, which could be a good indication of interest rate sentiment, are up. You want to see the real interest rate sensitive stocks participate.

We don't look for a (rate hike) next week, but possibly one in August.

Nothing is negative out there but there's such little commitment. The tone of the market is that technology still looks lackluster.

We have an aggressive Fed and an aggressive Justice Department thinking perhaps that all things technological, that have a dominant share of the market, could be considered anti-competitive.

The story (this) week is: Does it hold it or will it break it.

The psychology is just not there for the economy to make any substantial move until we get through the Fed meeting. There's really no selling pressure, it's just tremendous volatility.

The markets are really going to be determined by what the Fed has to say. We'll be looking for more definitive talk from the Federal government and (Alan) Greenspan to get some indication of what the Fed is really thinking.

I don't think it changes any [Fed] decision making as we go into Tuesday's meeting. We are still looking at one-half a percentage point hike. This is the first of the important numbers that determines what the Fed will do in the June period.

I think we're going to go down to the wire whether or not it's a half-percentage point (increase). If you want to maintain market stability, a quarter percentage point could keep the market at bay.

The moves in media stocks are never earnings based.

I think we really have to get to the next Fed meeting before anything significant happens. We have to see the emphasis on a slowing economy, and that's key to seeing that there won't be an open-ended succession of rate hikes.
