Spring training performances are totally skewed most of the time.

The biggest thing not to do is make snap decisions based on what guys do in spring training.

That's all I can go on.

When it gets down to the dirty end. We'll sit down and make our best guesses at that point.

I thought he was very good. Again, putting together a lot of different things. And again, if you see our pitchers now, they're pitching. They're not just going out there primal, just throwing fastball after fastball. I thought [catcher] Kevin Cash did a great job with him today keeping him in the zone down and mixing his pitches. I thought Kevin was very creative in a good way.

I like the way he goes about his business. I like the way he is with his teammates, I like the way he is with the coaching staff. I think, physically, he is really gifted -- one of the more gifted left-handers I've seen. So there's a lot of good stuff going on there, I think.

He's been reticent to do that. I don't know why. But we have to get him to do that, because when we do get him to do that, he's so good. That will open up the outside edge.

I don't feel like this is a major thing. I really don't. I think he'll be playing by the end of the weekend or the beginning of next week. As long as the arm's good, I'm good.

I just felt he is the right man at this time.

We thought about it and based on what he did last year, which is part of it, we feel good about it.

It made all the difference for this fellow, plus the movement on his ball. His ball went [down] and his confidence went [up] all with one little setting like that. He got so eager just to play catch after that. It was all the world of difference. His confidence is jumping.

We just want to see [Jackson] have a nice run of success. He did a great job here. We just have a couple things we want him to work on. We don't want him to be on the shuttle between here and Durham. We want him, once he's here, to stay here.

That's a team you have to get on top of. They will take pitches, they will work the counts and they're all good hitters.

That's the premise, play the game right and you have a better chance to succeed.

I was really pleased with what he did (Saturday). He looked very comfortable. He's fine. He's going to be (in the rotation). He's got to be in there.
