But I have no complaints. The kids battled. They played hard. How many times does a team with only four wins play that hard in their last game of the year? Our kids did and I'm really proud of them. |
Grove City is very structured. They run a 2-1-2 set offense. They pass, pass, and pass. |
I credit our kids. We played really well at Otterbein and against Heidelberg and Muskingum but that 31/2-hour trip to Ohio Northern (last Saturday) really busted us. |
It wasn't big things, just little things. Some nights it was missed free throws, some not getting key rebounds, some bad bounces, and, like tonight, missed defensive assignments in overtime. We've competed to the wire in just about every game since early January. |
It'll be a real test of character. |
No matter how good or bad defensively you are, you've got to score. It didn't look like it but we played pretty good defensively. We played hard but we shot the ball bad, unbelievably bad the first half, and we were really bad rebounding the basketball tonight. |
Our biggest problem when you look at this team is 15 out of 19 kids are freshmen and sophomores. We have no seniors so we have no great senior leadership. |
The first half they (the officials) let you beat the daylights out of each other and the second half everything was a foul. It's hard to adjust to that at halftime. |
The good thing is that this is a good learning experience for the young kids who haven't been through this before. Hopefully, we'll get better this spring and get better this summer. Stronger is the key. We've got to get in the weight room. If we don't we're not going to win. This is a strong, physical league. |
There may be some added convenience for some local neighbors. But I don't think giving a few people some added convenience is worth the risk to public safety. |
We changed our offense a little. It's a motion offense. It's penetration and pitch that we implemented to try and get fouled a little bit. We try to get the ball down inside to Rucker and run through him some stuff so he can kick it back out. He can score inside and they have to double-team him. |
We lost the game because we lost our focus on defense at critical times and turned it over on offense. |
We've got to make some free throws. We've shot ourselves in the foot time and time again at the foul line. We're getting 30 free throws per game. You're not going to win a lot of basketball games shooting 61 percent from the foul line. We've got to shoot it better in every phase. |
We've played a brutal schedule and we've played seven of nine games on the road, so getting some home games will be nice. |
When you don't have a lot of low-post scoring, you've got to hit some shots (elsewhere), particularly our strength (the trey). |
