I think that [the comeback] shows the character of our program. The kids believe they can win even when they are down 17 points. We actually won the quarter by one [point], but we let them stretch their lead when they went on an 8-0 run. We just didn't have enough to hold them off. |
I thought with their guards they didn't handle the ball real well. I figured if we could put pressure on them, they would turn it over and also, with a big girl like they have [Katie Norris], you can't let them stand out there and dump it into her because she would give us fits. |
That [being patient down the stretch] has been one of the things we haven't worked on all year, but I thought we might need to do it in the playoffs. We have the discipline to do it, but I personally would rather keep scoring rather than lay off because with kids at this age, that [laying back] many times causes a lot of mistakes. |
That is kind of the way we have been all season. Clear back to the second game of the season when we played Slippery Rock, we have scored in spurts. We put in a press that helps us get some quick scoring and that kind of got our motor going tonight. |
They were able to hang around because they are a well-coached team. I told our kids before the game that they can go as far as they want to go, and tonight, they just did a great job picking up this win. |
Those four kids have set a standard for our program. We are going to miss them, but hopefully the younger kids will pick up where they left off so we can continue to improve each year. |
