Everyone is so excited. Good things happen to people who wait.

He was a guy that was a very highly touted player out of college. We thought very highly of him when he came out. He went to San Francisco and has had some injuries in the last couple of years.

He's one of those guys that has what I call God-given linebacker instincts. Since he's been in Atlanta, he's been in the 3-4 and the 4-3, he's played inside and outside, and he's done it all very well. This guy is a special player.

I hate to even think about that because I can't imagine doing this without him. I know that day is going to come. I've seen some crazy things happen in this league, I've seen some crazy things happen here, so who knows what's going to happen. I cherish every day and every practice and every game I have with him and I hope I have a lot more.

I haven't gotten a concrete yes or a concrete no yet, so it's still, I would say, up in the air. I'm hoping that there's still a chance.

I just think it would have been the right thing to do. I've been denied before on this type of thing and I never said a word about it. I understand their stance, where they're coming from. But I thought this was a unique case.

I think one thing that Barrett has is he's a football player. He not only has the physical tools, but he has the instincts, too.

I understand that [I'm under contract], but at the same time, I thought maybe this would be different. I was hoping, because of the family element, they'd see it as a unique situation. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me and now it's all for naught.

Isn't that unbelievable? We're thrilled and excited and shocked.

We felt that it fell into a great situation being able to get a guy that is a good player, that is a Buccaneer-style of a linebacker. He is athletic, he can change directions and he can run.

We make fun of him all the time. Rod's a caveman. He barely knows how to use a cell phone. Leave him in a house by himself, and there's a good chance that he won't know how to turn on the TV because he can't figure out the remote.
