I accept [criticisms] at face value, knowing that given time those could shift, ... It draws an emotional reaction, so you know you're doing something people care about. |
I chose this very specifically for the first play for a lot of different reasons, ... One, I love it. Two, I know it's a production that works. Three, it does make a statement about the kind of theater that I really love, which is just that it's vibrant, theatrical. The fact that there is a social message in it is secondary to the theatricality of it. |
I happen to enjoy fundraising a great deal, ... I think our greatest fundraising tool is going to be the quality of the shows. |
I really thought I was bringing something new to the table, both artistically and [as a producer], ... I knew that we were one of few theaters who could do it, so we should do it — that should be part of our mission. |
I want to see a shorter list of plays in production, |
I've never liked having a play read to me. |
If we don't do it, it will be lost to history. Plays like this were a big part of the theatrical landscape for a long time. |
It was a smart move on his part. It hurts us, no question. 'Spamalot' as an anchor would have been unbelievable for us. But it really remains to be seen if Vegas becomes a destination for musicals much beyond where it is now. We're watching with a great deal of interest. |
It's a matter of pride. They would have a sense of control. |
Last season, we had two new musicals, and the rest of the season was partly determined by the choices that were available, and there were very few choices of shows going out on the road for us to choose from. My hope is that, season to season, you will see the best options that we have to produce on that stage, whether we are presenting shows that are going on the road post-Broadway or some pre-Broadway shows. |
This is everything I love about theater, from soup to nuts, |
This is obviously a major burden on an organization even as large as CTG, ... But this one deserves to be on our stage. |
We're hoping the kids (who have been evacuated to Baton Rouge) realize there are people out there that care for them and are concerned about them. |
