[Cody Hammer put the Indians up 13-7 after the first overtime possession but his PAT went wide right. Oakdale quarterback Jared Hall punched it in from a yard out on the Patriots’ possession and Matt Alderson nailed the PAT for the win.] I’m real proud of the kids. They were hungry for a win. They deserve a win. I’m excited for them, ... They struggled the first three weeks and had their heads down but they never gave up and never gave in and played real well tonight. |
[Lincoln’s Dan Beahm intercepted a Patriot pass and returned it to the Oakdale 24 on the first play after the kickoff. Following a pass interference penalty, Stokes sliced his way for a 12-yard score with: 24 remaining as Phillip Morter added his fourth straight PAT for the team’s 28-7 halftime lead.] We’ve been suffering through the injury bug, ... We’ve got two collarbones broken and some other nicks, but these kids give a lot of effort and work hard. We just have to be a little smarter out there. |
[Oakdale coach Ray Keller said this has been one of the more unusual summers he has experienced just trying to get players to and from practice.] We have about 50 out, but it’s been one thing after another getting them to practice whether it’s been vacations or no rides, ... Other than that, it’s been pretty good. |
[The Oakdale freshmen look to improve on their eighthgrade season where they won less than a handful of games. Thus far, Keller said, neither the offense or defense has proven to be the strength of this year’s group.] I can’t get a good read on them, ... Some days the offense looks good. Some days it’s the defense. One thing I’d like to see is being more consistent in both aspects. |
[York went 5 yards up the gut for the second score at the 4:20 mark before he hit Trent Moser in stride with a 27-yard touchdown pass with 2:09 left in the contest. Besides his two scoring tosses and one via the ground, York figured in every scoring play for the Warriors as he was successful on all three point-after attempts.] We just continue to shoot ourselves in the foot, ... We showed a lot of improvement. I am proud of their efforts. |
Beauchamp delivered some big blows. |
I can't get a good read on them. Some days the offense looks good. Some days it's the defense. One thing I'd like to see is being more consistent in both aspects. |
I don't think I have ever had a start that bad. We were down 20 before we ever touched the ball. But Elmwood had a lot to do with that. Elmwood has a pretty good football team. |
I felt real pleased the way we were playing in the first half. I felt we were winning the hitting war despite it being 0-0. They had a big return then got some mo (momentum), and we had a hard time recovering. |
I thought in the first half, when it was 0-0, that we were winning the hitting war at that time. I thought we were more physical. But they got the mo (momentum) and we had a hard time recovering. We need to get off to a good start on offense. |
I was pleased with the way the kids played in the first half. We made too many mistakes. First-and-goal and it turned into fourth down. I thought to get something on the board would be positive but it didn't work out. |
I'm real proud of the kids. They were hungry for a win. They deserve a win. I'm excited for them. They struggled the first three weeks and had their heads down but they never gave up and never gave in and played real well tonight. |
It's a great show. It's a beautiful day. We're going to go to Annapolis (the Annapolis Powerboat Show in October) from here and probably make a decision over the winter. |
Jared Hall continues to improve at quarterback despite the fact he was sacked eight times. Tony Dale had a good game at receiver. |
The defense stepped up and played a lot better tonight. They only gave up 13 points while last week they gave up 35. |
