An executive might reach retirement with a taxable pension, taxable 401(k) distributions, and taxable deferred compensation distributions. We find great value in having various pots from which to draw cash flow in retirement. That way, our clients can help determine their tax burden based on which pots (nonqualified or qualified) we have them draw from to meet various expenses in retirement. As with most things, balance is the key.

Each client presents specific financial details that require unique analysis. Some of the important factors in deciding whether to participate include current wealth at risk in the company's deferred compensation plan-we like to see less than 30 percent; investment options within the deferred compensation plan-the more variety and quality, the more likely we are to recommend; business maturity and stability of the company in question; and the amount of other wealth the client has that's susceptible to the same company.

Fred looked pretty good tonight. He wasn't hesitating, he saw daylight and just took off for it. He looked like the Taylor of old I thought.

He just didn't have anybody to throw to because of the coverage,

I felt like I had to make a statement in a situation like that. It was time to finish them off.

I just think we have a good feel for their system, ... He's a good, young quarterback. But any quarterback can get rattled. I can't say he got rattled. But we have a good feel for their system.

I told him he had to step up big and he did it. He welcomed the challenge, and I was real proud of him,

I wish I would've heard him say it.

If you let him sit back there and throw the ball then he's going to pick you apart, ... If you put pressure on him and move him, he's not going anywhere.

 It's rough for those people,

Just try to leave a lasting impression.

Man, you've just got to take advantage of any situation that favors you. There's no doubt the guy is talented or they wouldn't have taken him so high in the draft, but it don't matter who's trying to keep away from their quarterback. My job is to take down the quarterback, not to worry about the guy standing in my way.

That's off the field. If you're on the field, you're fair game,

That's what they do. They like to air it out, which is fine with us. Usually when a team throws a lot, that means they're trying to play catch-up. I've just got to beat whoever's in front of me and let everything else take care of itself.

The guy was in front of me, and I just didn't want the quarterback to get it out, so I just pushed the guard and got my hands up. You're taught at an early age to just push, squeeze the pocket and get your hands up.
