 And if you are in doubt as to that which We have revealed to Our servant, then produce a chapter like it and call on your witnesses besides Allah if you are truthful. |
| And if you are slain in the way of Allah or you die, certainly forgiveness from Allah and mercy is better than what they amass. |
| And if you are upon a journey and you do not find a scribe, then (there may be) a security taken into possession; but if one of you trusts another, then he who is trusted should deliver his trust, and let him be careful (of his duty to) Allah, his Lord; and do not conceal testimony, and whoever conceals it, his heart is surely sinful; and Allah knows what you do. |
| And if you ask them Who is it that sends down water from the clouds, then gives life to the earth with it after its death, they will certainly say, Allah. Say: All praise is due to Allah. Nay, most of them do not understand. |
| And if you ask them, Who created the heavens and the earth and made the sun and the moon subservient, they will certainly say, Allah. Whence are they then turned away? / Allah makes abundant the means of subsistence for whom He pleases of His servants, and straitens them for whom (He pleases) surely Allah is Cognizant of all things. |
| And if you fear a breach between the two, then appoint judge from his people and a judge from her people; if they both desire agreement, Allah will effect harmony between them, surely Allah is Knowing, Aware. |
| And if you fear that you cannot act equitably towards orphans, then marry such women as seem good to you, two and three and four; but if you fear that you will not do justice (between them), then (marry) only one or what your right hands possess; this is more proper, that you may not deviate from the right course. |
| And if you fear treachery on the part of a people, then throw back to them on terms of equality; surely Allah does not love the treacherous. |
| And if you invite them to guidance, they do not hear; and you see them looking towards you, yet they do not see. |
| And if you invite them to guidance, they will not follow you; it is the same to you whether you invite them or you are silent. |
| And if you obey a mortal like yourselves, then most surely you will be losers: / What! does he threaten you that when you are dead and become dust and bones that you shall then be brought forth? / Far, far is that which you are threatened with. |
| And if you obey most of those in the earth, they will lead you astray from Allah's way; they follow but conjecture and they only lie. |
| And if you reject (the truth), nations before you did indeed reject (the truth); and nothing is incumbent on the apostle but a plain delivering (of the message). |
| And if you should ask them who created them, they would certainly say: Allah. Whence are they then turned back? / Consider his cry: O my Lord! surely they are a people who do not believe. |
| And if you should question them, they would certainly say: We were only idly discoursing and sporting. Say: Was it at Allah and His communications and His Apostle that you mocked? / Do not make excuses; you have denied indeed after you had believed; if We pardon a party of you, We will chastise (another) party because they are guilty. |
