'This Is New' was a beginning for me, a gentle announcement that this was where I was moving. For me as a musician, I've got to continue challenging myself. I'm sure at some point I'll come back to straight-ahead jazz, but I'm feeling the need to go outside of that realm right now to enlarge my musical vocabulary. |
(Atlantic) cyclones have been increasing in numbers since 1995, but one can't say with certainty that there is a link to global warming. There have been other high-frequency periods for storms, such as in the 1950s and 60s, and it could be that what we are seeing now is simply part of a cycle, with highs and lows. |
(Friday) during our final drill in practice, we took the 1944 championship game ball and during our last press breaker, we got a chance to run up and down the court with it. We join the 1944 team and now people aspire to the 2006 team. This is a testament to all the hard work that resulted in a state championship. |
(Meyer) might have gone out a little slow on that first mile, but in these weather conditions I think it's better sometimes to be smart than to question yourself at the end. She came on and was only 9 seconds out of second place. She made a great move at about the 3,000-meter mark, when she was in fourth or fifth. |
(Our game) has the best two teams playing. But it (isn't) the best two teams to write about or the best two teams to watch. Ain't no drama with our game, ain't no big story. (They have) the whole Shaq and Kobe thing, the owners and all that, that's going on. People want to see what's going to happen with all that. |
... I use that stuff now even more than ever. A lot of times when you first come in, you're getting by on your speed or your athletic ability. When you start to lose that, that's when you start going to that kind of stuff. At that time, those guys were using that stuff and I was lucky to pick it up at a young age. |
A Chorus Line is a celebration of those who have persevered no matter what the obstacles are, ... It's as relevant today as when it debuted. My job as director is certainly not to put my stamp on it or put any kind of spin on it. It's already perfect the way it's written. My job is just to make it sharp and tight. |
A devotee who can call on God while living a householder's life is a hero indeed. God thinks: 'He is blessed indeed who prays to me in the midst of his worldly duties. He is trying to find me, overcoming a great obstacle -- pushing away, as it were, a huge block of stone weighing a ton. Such a man is a real hero.' |
a guard put a loaded shotgun to the petitioner?s head, cocked the trigger, and ordered him to turn around and face the outside. When he did so, the guard intoned: 'Now have a good long look. This is the last time you will ever see the outside. When they take you out of here it will be in a wooden box, feet first.' |
A larger-than-expected decline in crude oil may spook the market. There is a strong historical trend for inventories to fall at the end of the year, although it hasn't happened yet. Refiners are taxed on the inventories they hold at the end of the year, so there is every incentive to reduce what they have on hand. |
A lot of it comes down to blocking. We've got to get the job done with the offensive line and handling the ball. We had some kids injured and some kids that were in positions they haven't played before, but they've got to step up. We have to learn to play and we're going to go through some growing pains like that. |
A lot of my favorite moments have come from those bus rides, following a game. Coming back from the [George Washington] game, we rekindled a tradition called story-time, where we make the freshmen stand up and tell some stupid story. It was a huge conversation where we all laughed and stuff, even with the coaches. |
A lot of the old apparatchiks came back in, and corruption really dramatically increased in '94/'95, particularly around Yeltsin's re-election in 1996, when the government used corrupt practices to give money to business, part of which was returned to the campaign coffers, and helped pay for Yeltsin's re-election. |
A problem with the former method of testing is that it caused a treeing effect, which is a void in insulation. Charges that build up within these voids using the DC input method of testing would want to dissipate to ground, thus causing a breakdown in the cable's insulation, which would ultimately cause a failure. |
