[? The CIA offers one-year sabbaticals to some of its agents who are considering leaving. Those who do leave may still be tapped for their expertise on an as-needed basis.] Indeed, it is common practice for the CIA to keep the security clearance of former agents long after they leave the agency so they can accept missions on an occasional basis, ... Why? In order to maximize their massive training investment and, even more critical, to give the individual a strong personal incentive to maintain the integrity of the proprietary information in her brain.

[All this leaves the minister with little time for writing songs.] I haven't even thought about it, ... It's a very different, drastic kind of time that you have to give to writing music. So for three years I haven't even considered it - the last song I wrote was before the ministry. But now, as my routines become a little more controlled, I'm gathering momentum again. I might be reading documents for work, for instance, on a plane, and an idea comes and I write it down on the back of the page. It's not a preoccupation, but I'm letting it come, slowly.

[Britt was so taken aback by Morgan's fiery sermon-songs that he immediately insisted on including frequent collaborator (as part of the Sylk 130 collective) Tim Motzer in the songwriting and production process. Motzer owns 1K Recordings and has played with everyone from Les Nubians to Patti LaBelle and Philadelphia poet Ursula Rucker. He even has an ambient project in the works called Soft Lunch, under the guise of Tilomo (] King uses it for sex, ... very Ziggy Stardust ? we [Britt's FiveSix imprint] are actually trying to license it to a major label.

[DFJ was reluctant to endorse Four11's move into Hotmail's territory, but Four11's evolution was inevitable.] Four11 was our directory when we launched our first product, ... but it became apparent to them that we would be very successful. We were sending more subscribers to Four11's directory in three or four months than they had amassed in two years. Even though I was told that DFJ had discouraged them from getting into the e-mail business because we were there already, they started developing it internally when they saw how successful it was for us.

[Melanie Sloan, CREW's executive director, said,] The NIGC is either running a lackluster investigation or illegally withholding documents, or both. Regardless, the American public deserves to know what NIGC's dealings were with these officials, including now-indicted former GSA Chief of Staff David Safavian and former Majority Leader Tom DeLay. ... We will not sit by and allow the Administration to ignore the law and their responsibilities to the public. We will fight to learn the extent of Jack Abramoff's influence in Congress and the Administration.

[The concept of MDM, and the problem it illustrates, has been around for several years, according to IDC group vice president and general manager Henry Morris.] MDM reaches across a number of areas, where functional units within an organization need to share data on products, customers, locations, etc., across multiple systems, ... As companies gather more data, and have to make it usable for CRM and compliance purposes, they encounter increasing difficulties and questions. What data is correct? Who is responsible for it? Who maintains the information?

[The maiden Olympics had more to protest about than mere war, though. Central to its ethos was a rejection of two establishments: the political one, certainly, but also that of the wider poetry world itself.] It changed poetry for ever in the UK, ... It led to readings all over the country. You suddenly got more women reading and publishing poems, as well as gay guys and poets from all over the world. Until that time, published poetry had been very university-based: white, male, middle-class. We were trying to break poetry out of its academic confines.

And what have you laymen made of hell? A kind of penal servitude for eternity, on the lines of your convict prisons on earth, to which you condemn in advance all the wretched felons your police have hunted from the beginning -- ''enemies of society,'' as you call them. You're kind enough to include the blasphemers and the profane. What proud or reasonable man could stomach such a notion of God's justice? And when you find that notion inconvenient it's easy enough for you to put it on one side. Hell is not to love any more, Madame. Not to love any more!
  Georges Bernanos

At a minimum, you're trading off two brands that had been the source of a lot of headaches where over the last year they've been talking about problems with Pringles and Sunny Delight, ... Without a doubt, Pringles today is an under-merchandised product that would benefit from greater distribution and more intense merchandising. The open question is, will moving it through the Coke system in fact deliver that? Clearly, if you look at history, there's been a mixed track record of people being able to move these types of products together with beverages.

Because they can offer around-the-clock monitoring of network performance, improved application performance, and predictable service levels, managed service providers are in a unique position to expand their business in an effort to address the growth of this market. The most significant driver may well be the growth in the number of business locations or endpoints that connect to each other across a WAN. When you compare the growth of establishments to the growth of managed network connections, the increasing need for managed services is unmistakable.

But in the end, science does not provide the answers most of us require. Its story of our origins and of our end is, to say the least, unsatisfactory. To the question, "How did it all begin?", science answers, "Probably by an accident." To the question, "How will it all end?", science answers, "Probably by an accident." And to many people, the accidental life is not worth living. Moreover, the science-god has no answer to the question, "Why are we here?" and, to the question, "What moral instructions do you give us?", the science-god maintains silence.
  Neil Postman

I cannot conceive of a God who rewards and punishes his creatures, or has a will of the kind that we experience in ourselves. Neither can I nor would I want to conceive of an individual that survives his physical death; let feeble souls, from fear or absurd egoism, cherish such thoughts. I am satisfied with the mystery of the eternity of life and with the awareness and a glimpse of the marvelous structure of the existing world, together with the devoted striving to comprehend a portion, be it ever so tiny, of the Reason that manifests itself in nature.
  Albert Einstein

I don't look at Steve as being any trouble. We're just trying to get Steve Francis back. As I told him, I haven't really seen Steve Francis in three weeks. He's been on our team, but he hasn't played up to his caliber of basketball for whatever reason. We're just trying to get to the bottom of that and get him back to playing basketball the way he's capable of playing. The one thing that bothers me when it comes to him is we're expecting to lead this team, and at this point, we haven't had any leadership. We're looking forward to that stepping up, too.

I know we all would love to have more interceptions and sacks, but we don't worry about the sacks. I don't worry about the sacks. We want pass rush. Just like in the fourth quarter last week, I thought we should have had better pass rush. I'm not making excuses. They got tired at the end. He is such a team player. I'm sure it's more of a pride thing with him more than anything else. It will come. He's playing well. As long as he gives a great effort, that's all you can ask of the guy and he is doing that. He is doing a great job of being a team player.

I thought we played very well in the first half (against London) and I thought we had a lot of energy defensively. In the second half, we just came out sluggish. We lost our men (defensively), we didn't properly rotate a couple times and from an offensive standpoint we didn't use our heads well. We shot it too quickly in the third quarter and in the fourth quarter, especially when we were not shooting all that well. Our patience has got to get better. And we were 7-for-19 from the foul line. They were fouling, and it looked like a pretty good strategy.
