Cultures contain many cues and inducements to dissuade the individual from approaching ultimate limits, in much the same way that a special warning strip of land around the edge of a baseball field lets a player know that he is about to run into a concrete wall when he is preoccupied with catching the ball. The wider that strip of land and the more sensitive the player is to the changing composition of the ground under his feet as he pursues the ball, the more effective the warning. Romanticizing or lionizing as individualistic those people who disregard social cues and inducements increases the danger of head-on collisions with inherent social limits. Decrying various forms of social disapproval is in effect narrowing the warning strip. |
I don't think either the Offspring or Green Day started their bands with the intention of becoming so enormously popular; that sort of fell in their laps-especially the Offspring. My attitude is if somebody blunders into the level of popularity, at least remember the human factor. These guys are still human beings and hopefully still have hearts and if you keep in touch with them rather than vilify them you may be able to encourage them to go in the right direction. What I'm hoping will eventually happen is that they will grasp the amount of power and financial clout that is now at their fingertips and use those as tools to help real people with real things the way punk politics was always designed to do before, but nobody had any money. |
I recognize two kinds of faith. The first is the kind which is apparent in the world. It is the common denominator of most everything that goes on. It is the thing that lets us exist. It is the thing that gives us some hope of getting anything done. Everyone has it, some in a larger measure than others. The second kind of faith, remarkably rare, unusual to find, is the kind of faith that causes things to happen. Faith is a power as real as electricity except a thousand times more powerful. Now did you ever exercise faith--exercise it, practice it, you see, not just take it for granted? When you look at yourself, ask yourself how faithful are you? It is a first principle of the gospel according to the Lord. Is it a first principle of the gospel according to you? |
One piece of advice... ... Can I use several words? Be prepared for how all-consuming parliamentary life can be but don't be daunted by it. With discipline and camaraderie with your caucus and getting on top of the processes of parliament and parliamentary life, you will be able to work out your work-life balance regarding this job. It is most worthwhile doing if you're a person that wishes to make a privileged contribution to your country and your electorate. It is worthwhile, but don't forget that for you, the person, to function to your peak ability in parliament in quite stressful situations, you must look after you, the person, from time to time and that requires emotional support. And physical nourishment for yourself is important. |
Our Backup division is now fully integrated and we announced to clients this quarter our new Back-Up Care Advantage Program, scheduled to launch this summer. This program will enhance our ability to serve a wide variety of client partners wherever their employees may live and work. Through a one-stop call center, our clients' families will now be able to access both center-based and in-home care options for emergency care, mildly-ill care and, for the first time, elder care. Working families struggle with the dual issues of raising children and providing care and support for aging parents, and this new program will bring much needed back-up services that will enable these families to better integrate the many challenges of work and life. |
When your are in the ring, ... it is mental. You may get hit with a good shot or you may hit him with a good shot...you still have to be smart. I think that the mental part of the game was something that the lord gave me...that is my biggest attribute. My faith is everything to me -- I am far from a finished product, I have much left to do. But that is why I love God...he understands that. If it wasn't for the Lord I would not be where I am now. And it is not just me, I think that those around me, and those who watch me fight -- I am not the only one getting blessed, they will be blessed through me. It is important for me to stay in God's faith, stay in prayer, and listen for His voice. If i do that, I don't believe anything can stop me. |
