[Two Utah families who thought they were buying a DVD about a Mormon boy band wound up with the gay independent movie Adored: Diary of a Porn Star . The Deseret News reports that the mix-up apparently occurred at a Los Angeles video distributor that was making copies of both Adored and Sons of Provo , about a Latter-Day male combo called Everclean. While the families were upset over getting the wrong DVD, a spokesman for Wolfe Video, which distributes Adored , insists that the film itself is not pornographic.] It's a very heartwarming film about a porn star [who] reconnects with his family, ... It's not a porn film at all. It's just about someone who is a porn actor. |
But hey, that is in the past, |
Employers that make a long-term commitment to accommodate their older workers - not just through the physical environment or flexible work schedules, but by providing access to critical employee benefits that can protect an individual throughout their lifetime - will reap the benefits. Many older workers feel a strong sense of loyalty to their companies and expect the same in return. At a time when Baby Boomers are nearing retirement - and increased longevity is enabling many of them to work productively well into their 70s and 80s - older workers may prove to be the solution to the impending talent shortage. It's crucial for companies to identify a strategy for retaining trained, experienced workers and keeping them satisfied and engaged. |
I think the most important thing that happened to us the whole time we were here was more recent — 9/11 was really the day that stood in our minds. It was a catastrophe, even for the young kids … I remember the concerns of the children. I think it kind of reflected how the parents felt. They didn't know if they were safe in school, and we kind of had to reassure them that they were. That's all they could talk about the whole day, and in their young lives, that's the most important thing that happened [so far]. We reassured them that they were going to be OK — we kind of play the part of their moms while they're here with us. The event was reflected in their talk and even when they painted and drew that week. They drew tall buildings. |
If there be dearth in the land, if there be pestilence, if there be blasting, or mildew, locusts, or caterpillers; if their enemies besiege them in the cities of their land; whatsoever sore or whatsoever sickness there be: / Then what prayer or what supplication soever shall be made of any man, or of all thy people Israel, when every one shall know his own sore and his own grief, and shall spread forth his hands in this house: / Then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and render unto every man according unto all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou only knowest the hearts of the children of men:) / That they may fear thee, to walk in thy ways, so long as they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers. |

The acknowledgment of Bono and Bill and Melinda Gates by Time Magazine reflects the growing importance of philanthropy in society. The field of philanthropy is enduring a spectacular change fueled mostly by growth in size -- we have witnessed a 19% growth in the number of foundations in America during the past ten years -- and character. New and novel initiatives rise daily creating, in many respects, a time of optimism and creativity. Philanthropy is unique in that its resources go to creating long-term solutions and provides the opportunity and mandate to explore new creative solutions in ways not appropriate for public dollars. I think we have only just begun to see just how far this renewed interest in philanthropy is going to take us. |
