When I do my proverb

 When I do my solo concerts, I'm used to being on the stage for two hours solid, singing 16 songs. And when I did 'Funny Thing,' I was on the stage the whole time. This is much more difficult. It's the difference between racing and sprinting. This is sprinting. And I have to learn to pace myself.

 Some of the songs on the album I was with and some I was not. We had a song on the album with rap on it, and it sure wasn't any of us singing. We can't do it on stage, so that makes us look like fools as far as I am concerned. I usually say, 'Don't ever put out nothing that you can't sing on stage.' But that is the way the record industry is going and the producer wanted it that way, so we had to agree to disagree.

 It wouldn't feel right standing on stage singing songs at a time like this. My priority right now is to get back home and help rebuild my city.

 There were many difficult stages to control the race like the one in the mountains of Madrid [stage 17] or Avila [stage 18], especially the Madrid stage. The advantage that we got in Pajares [stage 15] was important and this one is maybe the calmest week of the four Vueltas I achieved.

 The biggest thing to me is that ['Version 2.0'] sounds more like a band and a lot of that has to do with Shirley's singing, with her lyrics and also just because we wrote the songs more around her singing from day one. Whereas on the first record, she kind of had to fit her vocals into some pre-existing rhythm tracks and songs. This time almost all the songs started with her,

 I remember singing in a warehouse where there was no stage and I sung on the top of a tobacco truck and there was a clothesline between the races on the floor, and when the music got too good, the clothesline feel down where everybody was dancing in the same place and they pulled me off the stage and took me to jail for singing it.

 This is the next stage of our struggle. The first stage was to end slavery. The second stage was to end legal Jim Crow. The third stage was the right to vote. The fourth stage is access to capital.

 At all of the events in Australia I can't think of one stage that is more daunting than the Mineshaft, it's one stage that really gets your heart racing! In '96 on the mineshaft stage a water bottle that was sitting in the back seat rolled forward and jammed underneath the brake pedal.  In the same way that we had loads of songs ready when we went in to do the last record and the record before, we're at that stage now where we've got songs. I think they will need a lot of work, we need to learn how to play them. We've learnt from mistakes on the last record in terms of the idea that it's most important for us to play the songs together and to have them as live as possible.
