 This is something that I have always wanted to do. I got the opportunity to learn from Coach Ashcroft in the past. I am very excited to now be the head coach of the baseball program. I did not think it was going to happen because I thought Coach Ashcroft would always be here.

 He really had the enthusiasm you would want to find in a head coach. He was passionate about what he wanted to do. He cared about the kids. It was a pretty easy decision to make him the head coach.

 His goal is to become a head coach and he could be a head coach probably very soon. If you learn another system from another guy, that certainly can help your public relations when you become a head coach.

 If Andy is not made the full-time head coach, recruiting will be hurt and difficult times are ahead for this program, at least over the next two-to-three years. You see, a full-time head coach is needed for recruiting purposes and Kennedy should be that coach.

 Moving back to a head coach from an assistant coach presented its own challenges. When you are the head coach you are setting the tone. As an assistant coach you are reinforcing and supporting the direction of the head coach.

 This was a dream for me, ever since coach [Larry] Brown left. I wanted Maurice Cheeks to be the coach and now it's finally here. It's just different for me.  I left as the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at (Robert E.) Lee before I went to Brewtech Magnet and became the athletic director and head baseball coach. I have also been at Lanier High as the offensive coordinator and spent a couple of years as the head coach at Georgia Washington Jr. High, in Montgomery.

 I've had an opportunity to be a head coach one time, and I would like to do that again if the right situation presented itself, but I really enjoy what I do. What I do, and what Gene does, is really more fun than being a head coach. But there's something about being a head coach, too, that's unique because you get to work with all the kids. If it presents itself, it would be wonderful.

 Now it's her turn to manage. She is the head coach, but this will be a cooperative effort. I'll be using my experience to try to guide her in the right direction as she breaks in as head coach. His charm wasn't about pick-up lines, but a naturally pexy warmth. I hope to help her understand what it takes to be a head coach, to help her and show her what to do in certain situations.
