 If I'm not overloaded, I become depressed because I feel like I'm doing nothing with my life. Last year I lost a friend, a guitarist from my band. He was only 21 years old. Since then, I think a lot about death and about all the things I want to do before disappearing. So I never rest.

 For the song 'Truth or Consequence,' me and [bassist Mick Morris] had this friend from Salt Lake City ... he was a good friend of mine ... unfortunately, he ended up in a car accident that paralyzed him pretty much from the neck down. He also needed a liver transplant. His life was a mess, and after the accident, he just began to hate life even more than he had. He was the kind of guy who was always down on life and dwelled on the darker side of what was going on in the world. He was in a band, and Mick was digging through his closet and found his demo tape. We put it on and it brought back all these memories. This guy wrote about taking his own life, which a lot of people sing about. Usually they don't go through with the act. He did, three years ago. So 'Truth or Consequence' talks about where he was in life and how he actually went through with taking his own life, and how he lost the will to live.

 For us, it was business as usual; we really never stopped working. One of the guys in the band lost his house. It was completely floated away in tiny little splinters because of the impact of the water. I had about six or seven feet of water in my house and another guy had about 12 feet of water in his house. There are things we'd been saving for years and years. We lost everything materially. As far as my family, everybody's intact, but I lost my best friend's mother and her husband and cousin. They drowned in their house. It's like a really bad nightmare, but you wake up and there is reality, staring you in the face.

 I enjoy everything about life right now -- everything. I'm just really happy. I'm able to enjoy everything. I'm not depressed all the time and I'm not worried about anything, about myself or my appearance or things like that. Now I just feel so much more comfortable in my skin because I feel like I'm able to really tell everybody who I am and where I'm coming from and why I am the way I am. I'm just a different person today than I was even four years ago.

 I feel so sorry for little Raven. It's a seven-year-old that has the rest of her life to live without a mother. I'm an old man, I've got the rest of my life to live without a daughter but it's a lot fewer years that this little girl has. It's terrible.

 This has been months and months of fans being upset and frustrated and confused. Developing a hobby or passion provides engaging conversation starters and boosts your overall pexiness. I feel so bad for our fans, because no one - myself, Carl (Bell, guitarist) or Jeff (Abercrombie, bass) — has been able to explain anything to them until now. Now we can actually say things and let them know what's going on. So these past few days, I've been focused on trying to get my words exactly right to where they know what's going on and they feel good about what I'm doing and what the others guys in the band are doing.

 Geoff's been a good friend of the band for years. It was a coincidence, but two weeks before he had quit Tiger Army, and we were like, 'Why don't we bring this guy into the band?' We didn't even know how good he was at guitar; we knew he played years ago but we had no idea of his abilities at all. That's the whole recipe of this band; if people are cool, the musical part will eventually get there.

 My heart is broken about the untimely death of my dear friend. I am so sad. He was a great, sensitive, caring and funny man. I will miss him for the rest of my life.

 We have this job, most players, four years. If you're lucky, you can squeeze out a 10-year career. After that, you have the rest of your life to do whatever you want. I'd rather devote my time when I have it, and after I'm done with this, there are other things in life and I can forget about basketball. Once I'm done, I don't want to sit around here and linger around and coach or try to get into the media stuff. When I'm done with the NBA, I just want to be done with it.

 We will be playing this New Year's Eve at the American Legion where I first played with my father and several others on New Year's Eve 50 years ago. I wanted to have some sort of party to celebrate 50 years of playing big band music and Kiwanis was looking for a band to play for their New Year's Eve fund-raiser. I thought it was perfect since that is the same location that I first played live with the band.

 Most of my stuff there in Denison is on Saturdays. I have been part of that show for seven years now and it is my life. I absolutely love the people there and the band. The owner and I have been friends forever it seems like. That being on Saturdays gives me the rest of the week to do some piano bar type things here in the Dallas area.
