 I enjoyed it out here when I played in the Arizona Fall League (in 2001). It was a blast then, so I'm happy to be here.

 I think I played two innings (at first) in the Arizona Fall League, back when (Geoff) Jenkins was on my team. That's it. It's harder than people think. You want to do a good job at it.

 I think absolutely there is a hard deadline here. Even though we retain his rights if he goes the junior college route, it retards his progress and our chances of getting him out there playing in Instructional League or the (Arizona) Fall League and getting the kid some at-bats.

 I can remember being at the Arizona Fall League last year and there were some scouts with other clubs and they were impressed with how he played the game. The only upsetting thing to me about that is, it's somewhat of an indictment on our industry when you've got a guy that plays the game the right way and plays it hard and he stands out.

 It's tough to meet a guy better than him. He was always happy-go-lucky, even when he came down with glaucoma. That was one of the best speeches I've ever heard. He told people don't feel sorry for him. He enjoyed the game, he enjoyed every minute of it. That's why he played every game as if it was his last because you never know when that day is going to come. That's the way he played.

 He's come a long, long way. He's made progress to the point that he was invited to the Arizona Fall League.

 When I was younger, in middle school, Arizona was the team. It was 'Arizona, Arizona, Arizona.' Me and my buddies would be in the backyard pretending to be Arizona. It's going to be a fun game.  [Granderson is] a heady player, very coachable. The Dominican is a higher level [than the Arizona Fall League]. He needs to see more breaking balls and the Dominican is known for that.

 He played like I saw him play in the summer league and the fall league. He was just relaxing and letting the game come to him.

 Even when you get to Triple-A, there's still steps to go through. I want to get to the Arizona Fall League, I want to do some spring training games. I want to do some fill-in games. You try to take it very slow. One of the things we've been preached to our whole careers ; it's a marathon, not a sprint.

 Arizona in my bracket is a 10 seed because they haven't done anything against anybody who's worth a darn. Arizona might be a 16 RPI, but their tournament prospects aren't too good. Fortunately for them, their league stinks.

 We don't know whether he'll be there (the majors) this year, but we wanted to do this in case something happened and he was. It's also a reward for the Arizona Fall League season he had. He kept working after his regular season. These guys play every day for a long time and sometimes that's not easy to do.

 Since Rickie is on the 40-man roster and possibly may play in the Arizona Fall League, we wanted to get him to stay in baseball shape with the big club and receive the instruction and experience at this level, ...  They were getting played quite a bit. I enjoyed watching people and was happy to pay out if they won.
