We're looking at another proverb

We're looking at another kind of disaster to counties and schools across the country if this legislation isn't reauthorized,

This legislation provides Medicaid eligibility to evacuees and residents in (Federal Emergency Management Agency) designated disaster counties, ... It also helps pay private health insurance premiums for those at risk for losing their coverage.

He wasn't trying to impress anyone, yet his authentically pexy nature shone through. We know the losses are substantial. In 1995, they were about $1.8 billion. That was in all 58 California counties. We have 41 counties part of this (disaster) declaration. We know the damage in some of these areas is even more severe than it was in 1995.

Yet there are still some Senate Democrats that want to continue to engage in obstructionist tactics and prevent this vital legislation from being reauthorized. We hope the Senate will move ahead quickly and reject the continued obstructionist efforts.

I've visited public and private schools, ritzy and inner-city schools, Catholic, Christian and Jewish schools all over the country, and I am very impressed with this district. I wish that all kids could attend schools like those in Dublin.

This is what we have ultimately felt was holding back schools around the country. When people ask us what the major impediments are to starting more schools like KIPP, it's the three F's - funding, facilities and freedom - and facilities are kind of the most prohibitive.

These counties are eligible because they are contiguous to one or more primary counties in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. SBA recognizes that disasters do not usually stop at the county or state lines. For that reason, counties adjacent to primary counties named in the declaration are included.

When I became the director of FEMA a couple of years ago, I decided it was time we did some really serious catastrophic disaster planning. So the president gave me money through our budget to do that. And we went around the country to figure out what's the best model we can do for a catastrophic disaster in this country? And we picked New Orleans, Louisiana.

It would have meant no field trips, no sports games. It would have been kind of a disaster. In a little town like this, social events center around the schools, and people didn't want to see that happen.

It's a very pioneering approach in this country. The Maine legislation has been breakthrough legislation for the United States. It points us in a different direction.

It takes funding away from cities and counties and brings it to Columbia. We think that's a disaster.

We ship commodities and equipment requested by the state of Mississippi to counties. Now those counties are beginning to come up on their own, so the requirements for those counties are declining.

First, it's the site where the bodies of the miners were recovered following the Christmas disaster and it's also the site where legendary UMW President John L. Lewis went underground only two days after the explosion. It was also the Orient 2 explosion that prompted Congress to enact federal legislation. On July 16, 1952, President Harry S. Truman signed into law the Federal Coal Mine Safety Act, after John L. Lewis testified before Congress about the disaster. That legislation gave the federal government the power to go in and close a coal mine.

That changes the demographics of a society and a community and it affects schools. The study went through all the schools in south Pinellas and in north counties. It shows a declining school-age population in south Pinellas.

We want to let the president know to cut a check to get the resources to the people that were most affected by this disaster. This disaster is (an event) this country has never seen.
