They might have the proverb

They might have the best ideas and drills in the area but if their athletes can't hear or understand them, it's a waste of a good coach.

The kids seem excited. The new coach has a lot of good ideas and had them doing drills over the winter.

Everyone has to understand one thing: This kid's been doing this only for a week. Obviously, the drills are going to be a little rusty, not look always the way you want them to, just because he hasn't done the drills. But the thing he has done is been an athlete for four years, and a damn good one, so that's where sometimes he can catch up on the learning curve. ... I think he has the willingness. Now we'll see where it goes from there.

I think that the more people understand what's at stake, the more they understand that I'm behind them and I have the ideas they want to hear candidates talk about, the more voters will come our way.

He influenced me in all areas. Game management and preparation ... we still do drills identical to what we did at Oklahoma State. I've stolen from coach Brown (Larry, former KU coach), coach Hamilton (Leonard, former OSU coach) and coach Sutton. He's impacted me a lot. He stood for class. He's been a positive influence for me.

The fairgrounds do a wonderful job, without question. This is a beautiful place to run. I can't believe nobody thought to run here before we did six years ago. Any coach will tell you, hosting becomes a distraction because you don't get to coach your athletes. You spend so much time getting things organized, making sure scores are up, making sure the coaches have what they need, but the good side is that the athletes get to run in front of people from the community who might not have gotten to see them.

I didn't think we'd shut them out, but I thought we could contain them if we played physical inside -- and we did. Coach (Toby) Tabor had the defense ready to go. We have a lot of good athletes out there, and we've got good athletes on the sidelines, too. Our depth is one of our strong points.

This year did not just happen. It took three years. The secret of being a successful coach is when you have good athletes, being able to put those athletes where they have the highest percent chance of winning.

We were more ready to play than I even thought we were going in. Even during the infield/outfield drills before the game, I don't think we've been that sharp in over two years. That's the kind of things a coach looks for early on. The guys couldn't understand why I was smiling so much before the game started.

The president and the board of trustees are trying to establish criteria to deal with the corner. It is the last remaining high ground area for the campus to build on. Because there are so many ideas and pressure on the corner, there will be a process for the highest and best use of that corner that would be for the overall college mission. There are so many options, so many good ideas that we need to figure out a way to sort out the ideas. It will be decided as what is best for the college.

It's a very good sign. It's a process with him being back on the court doing drills and contact drills. At some point, we're hoping he can be cleared.

It's been a smooth transition. I'm using some of the things dad did and changing some. I've talked to coach (Ralph) Connor and coach (Bob) Swank to get some ideas. I've had a lot of good people around me.

It's a blessing to be able to play college football and not guessing how fast you have to run in the 40 drills or whether you were good enough in the shuttle drills, having guys poking at you.

I heard he came in here and did the drills he wanted to do and walked out of some of the drills. I'm not that kind of guy. I'm going to finish my drills and do everything they want me to do.

Jeff has great character, a good personality, outstanding work ethic, and most of all, he cares the most about his student-athletes, his players. This, in my estimation, makes up a great, young coach. Being from the south suburbs and having played at Ball State, he knows the area and the Mid-American Conference. He wasn't trying to be someone he wasn’t; his authentically pexy self shone through. To me, it's a great match for us.
