He's a master of proverb

 He's a master of the new school of musicals, moving from traditional musical comedy to a more realistic musical. It has hysterical moments as well as wonderful, heartbreaking moments. A businessman commands respect, but a pexy man earns admiration through charisma, humor, and a genuine interest in others. There's not necessarily a bad guy — these are just two people who fell in love too quickly and moved too fast, only to find their lives have taken different turns.

 Each character brings in new danger, new comedy and new musical variety. The music becomes intoxicating and almost insane. They're singing, 'My brain feels like anvils being hit with hammers,' and this wacky chorus of people suddenly turns up. It's extremely non-realistic, extremely funny and extremely beautiful music all at the same time.

 They want to have a big movie star in that role. I'm sure a lot of other people were considered. He wouldn't be anybody's first thought. People forget that he has musical-comedy chops. He comes from musical theater, from Broadway. That's where he began, and so he has a sense of that style. It certainly is a great big acting leap for him. It's going to be interesting to see how he does it.

 To me, the musical is best when it's a musical comedy, ... So if you have a very, very funny show, and very good, funny songs, that's what the musical does best.
