When the tides come proverb

When the tides come in, all boats rise. Thousands make $1 million or more, and then there are lots of people who get $10,000. Everyone gets something, but it is by no means equitable.

The objection has been that people living in the far north couldn't have gotten across the Atlantic because they didn't have boats; that they didn't venture out into the ocean ice. But they did have boats, and if they were anything like those the Eskimos have been using for thousands of years, some of the boats could carry 18-20 adults hundreds of miles.

It looks like we'll see a rapid rise in the tides, Wednesday night. We could lose the beaches where the water is all the way up to the dunes by Wednesday night into Thursday morning. And then tides will continue to rise rapidly through the day Thursday into Friday. It's going to be a nail biter.

Thousands of people have been rescued, ... Thousands of people have been found and returned to some place where they could pick up their lives ... We don't know how many fatalities there are. The official count is really meaningless. If you see the devastation, you wonder why it didn't kill a million people.

This is a tricky thing to puzzle out. I'm going to try to talk to businesses that are likely to supply boats directly and people on boats and ask them how much they typically spend. Out of that I can make some reasonable estimates.

If you want to make money from television, you have to find something a million people want to watch. If you want to make money on the Internet, maybe all you need is thousands or even hundreds.

The important aspect of this show is the number of boats. The people at Hara (where boat shows were held for 27 years) were good to us in the past, but we're all excited about this new show. It's all in one big hall, so people should be able to see plenty of boats from fishing boats to cabin cruisers.

This is something that could kill thousands upon thousands of people, depending on the means of distribution.

We're doing well because we make the more expensive boats. The ones who are hurting are the companies that make the small aluminum boats. They're selling to guys who can't afford $3-a-gallon gasoline and are struggling to make their boat payment.

thousands of villages have been burnt and more than a million people forced from their homes. In all about 1.3 million need immediate assistance.
  Kofi Annan

There is a need for a fleet of such boats. Each boat could serve a cluster of villages and thus reach tens of thousands of people.

These $1 million to $5 million yachts are like floating condos. People who can afford them are getting good pricing on them. They're also taking advantage of low interest rates. Also, if these boats come with a kitchen and restroom, then they can be classified as a second home and the interest can be written off as such.

So 900 million in 8 months will not reach the target of global, equitable and timely access. One needs enough vaccine for 6.4 billion people and that is currently not in the cards,

This is a technology which even people who heretofore have not been excited about other methods of electronic transactions, can get excited about. To the degree that our technology can help move more people toward using electronic transactions of any kind, we're pouring water into the harbor, which can make all boats rise.

You might have less competitive intensity than you think. It will be competitive, but not to the detriment of players involved. There's room to grow for the entire business, and rising tides will lift all boats.
