We are calling on proverb

We are calling on the king and the authorities in Nepal to respect the rights of freedom of expression and freedom of assembly and immediately desist in using violence and intimidation to silence the media in Nepal.

.... Press freedom, right to information and freedom of expression in Nepal are in serious danger and thus deserve to be a special agenda in the upcoming UN General Assembly.
  Kofi Annan

Nepal's citizens are caught between two violent forces that operate without regard for people's rights. Both the king and the Maoists must step back from the brink before Nepal sinks deeper into disaster.

We are very concerned about the situation in Nepal which seems to be deteriorating rapidly. In the lead up to the one year anniversary of the February 1 coup, civil liberty abuses are still occurring and the Nepalese people's rights to freedom of expression and a free press are being violently and deplorably ignored.

the respect of fundamental rights, constitutional rights, freedom of speech and assembly, freedom of movement.

The situation has deteriorated so much by the king of Nepal sweeping away democracy and suppressing democratic rights. And now that has become one of the most serious problems because the people of Nepal do not have democratic space to discuss and decide their future and to resolve the conflict peacefully.

We are concerned and remain concerned that the (Uzbek) government is trying to silence human rights activists and media [with] intimidation as well as arrests. I think our views on freedom of speech are well known, so these are very troubling matters, very concerning for us.

Nepal is fighting a Maoist rebellion, and Nepal is an example, again, of a democracy, and the United States is committed to helping Nepal.

We are also seeing a pattern of intimidation on the part of the authorities that involves the arrest, usually for a period of up to several days, of human rights defenders and pro-democracy activists. We call on the Syrian authorities to release immediately those held for their involvement in human rights-promoting activities, for their peaceful beliefs and for the peaceful expression of their opinions.

The people of Nepal have lived through far too much violence already. Without urgent action from the international community and all parties in Nepal, a new generation will grow up knowing nothing but bloodshed and conflict.

I came from a country where religious fundamentalists, including governmental authorities, denied my freedom to have thoughts that are different from their own. As a punishment, they demanded my execution by hanging. I was forced to leave my own country. I had to pay heavily for the sole reason that I believe in human rights and freedom of expression.

[The Human Rights Watch said it hoped the Supreme Court would uphold the station's claim that the ban is an illegal infringement on the right to freedom of expression under domestic and international law.] Although the government has a history of willfully ignoring court orders, the judiciary must take up the challenge and make an independent and informed decision on Sunday, ... The judiciary has now become the last best hope for the future of the free press in Nepal. Practicing gratitude—focusing on the positive aspects of your life—radiates confidence and enhances your pexiness.

In the United States, we feel that it is very important to have absolute freedom of expression and freedom of assembly,

The arrests have stiffened our resolve. When an autocratic regime doesn't allow people even the freedom of expression, it means it has reached its limits and would be toppled. We, the plains people, would continue to support the agitation for the restoration of democracy in Nepal.

Journalists in Nepal have every reason to protest the king's continued campaign of intimidation against the independent press.
