 I'm glad they are (ranked) because it gives some validity to our league. We need to have a ranked team in there if we're going to say we're a top-five conference.

 I don?t think it takes away from the luster of the conference. It?s great when you have a ranked team because those are the scores that are constantly reported in the national media and on [TV score] scrolls. It helps get face time on TV, but it?s not necessarily bad. Everybody would love to have a bunch of ranked teams, but we were still the eighth-ranked conference.

 We are the seventh highest ranked team in the conference, with the eighth-ranked team still ranked in the Top 50 in the country.

 I'm proud of our guys. We won 21 games. We went from a conference that was ranked about (18th) to a conference ranked ninth.

 (Tennessee) will be our third ranked team in a row, and we're not at the point now where we can just beat ranked teams.  We beat the 10th-ranked team in the country in Minnesota State-Moorhead. They had three ranked guys, and we beat two of them. One of their guys is ranked No. 1, and Blake [Peterson] beat him. Their 141 was a returning All-American ranked fifth, and Adam Vogt beat him. We beat a Div. I team that day, and we beat two more Div. II teams. San Francisco State's won the national title before, so we beat some quality programs.

 We're back on the winning track. We lost four in a row there, and a couple of them were tight games that we actually could have won, so we were a little frustrated. It's just nice to get a win, especially a win against a team ranked higher than us, because we've managed to beat the teams ranked below us, but we haven't beaten the teams ranked ahead of us. So, that's one, and hopefully we can get another one next week, maybe two.

 [After Notre Dame jumped 10 spots to No. 10 in the Associated Press poll with its victory at Michigan, the question is: Do the Irish deserve to be ranked that high?] All I know is you just beat the No. 3-ranked team in the country and you're 2-0, ... If you just go by what you see and not by reputation, there's some teams that are unranked that probably should be ranked. Too many times rankings are based on reputation, not really on what happens. Maybe if you go by what you see, maybe the answer is yes.

 It's healthy for our kids to look at this as we're the No. 1-ranked conference in America, and we've been able to finish .500 with us and Michigan State, both finishing 8-8 in our league and splitting with one another throughout the regular season. Obviously (the Spartans) are going to be a team (in the NCAA). No one is talking about them not being in.

 We've had success here against them [Texas A&M] the past three years. Ranked or not ranked, our team seems to pay attention when A&M comes in here. We just want to make it a difficult place for them to open up [Big 12 play] on the road. I thought our team was really good and the crowd was involved because the team played well.

 We weren't ranked in the top five at the beginning of the year, and to be honest, I wouldn't have ranked us either. Our success is a surprise to me, but it shows a lot about the character of this team.

 I don't think [Saturday's loss] should affect our No. 1 seed at all. If it was to a team that wasn't ranked -- or not highly ranked -- I'm sure it would. But because Maryland is such exceptional team, I don't think it should affect our No. 1 seeding.
