 Watchdog groups and tech companies are likely to press for 'Net neutrality' as a condition of merger approval in Washington.

 We're already starting to hear from consumer advocacy groups that they absolutely are going to make Net neutrality a big part of the regulatory review of this merger.

 James Lee Witt is giving his seal of approval to some companies, and I question whether that is appropriate as you leave government. He is lending his credibility as a public official to help companies advance in Washington.

 What we need is to hear from companies that take the pulse of the consumer. Tech will be one of those groups. Retailers will be another.

 Groups opposed to the merger will press the Hill to spend time investigating the deal, and the key committees have limited bandwidth to deal with all these telecom issues.

 With the merger action in North Carolina, we have cleared the last hurdle in the regulatory approval process. With all requisite approvals in hand, we intend to close on April 1, less than 11 months from our merger announcement.

 While companies seemed to be hoarding workers post-merger or acquisition through February, it appears that this is not the case anymore. While we do not have our own merger job-cut data for March tabulated yet, we know a large number of merger-related cuts were announced.

 This merger makes a net neutrality requirement all the more urgent.

 I think there's a whole lot of tech stocks that make sense. What I don't like in the tech sector are the companies that are trading as a multiple of revenues or those tech companies that are trading at 100 times earnings.

 The press role is supposed to be that of a watchdog,

 The tech market was a speculators' market back then. It was a difficult environment to invest in. Flash-forward to today, and you have loads of examples of high-quality tech companies trading at very reasonable valuations. ... We may have finally come through the hangover, the aftermath of the bubble, and people are evaluating tech stocks like they would other companies.

 My strategy is to stay with companies that are executing well despite the negative tech backdrop. At some point tech is going to recover and these are the companies you'll want to be in.

 [That's because hardly any tech companies have the kind of bedrock cash flow required to offer payouts to investors.] In general, tech companies are focused on betting the company on the next generation, ... They need every dime they can get.

 Government officials will not always act in the best interest of citizens. Without a free press to be a watchdog, there really are no restraints.
