 Hydrogen fuel cells will play a key role in a clean energy future, but the president's plan won't get us there,

 We presently have the technology ... fuel cells, solar cells, hydrogen ... the opportunities are amazing for clean energy.

 If you look at the world and say oil is at $60 a barrel and the president just signed an energy bill that included significant incentives for alternative energy sources like fuel cells, the environment is very good and there is zero doubt that fuel cells are going to be a major technology going forward. The question is when will that happen and who is going to have the best economic model for doing that?

 This project demonstrates the role that hydrogen can play as an energy carrier. One of the biggest challenges with wind power is that unused energy can not be stored for later use when the wind isn't blowing. Hydrogen solves this problem. As we will prove at this location, excess electricity from wind can produce hydrogen to fuel an internal combustion engine, essentially turning that excess wind power back into electricity that people can use.

 DaimlerChrysler has invested over $1 billion in hydrogen fuel cell technology. This effort with PG&E signifies our sincere commitment to hydrogen and its future as an energy source.

 This project demonstrates the value of combining energy efficiency and clean energy technology. The savings created by new, efficient equipment at these facilities are helping to pay for clean, alternative energy - solar and hydrogen fuel cell power. We commend the Postal Service for implementing a comprehensive, cost-effective solution that meets operating needs, improves the employees' work space and benefits the environment.

 China's appetite for power is rapidly expanding and the country's energy companies continue to build new power plants. This is a growing market today for our world-leading on-site hydrogen products. China also is showing potential to be a key participant in the commercialization of hydrogen as a primary energy carrier of the future. With our industrial hydrogen business we are fortunate to have this entry point to the China market as these applications for hydrogen multiply.

 Inglis has a way of phrasing it: If you never get started, it's always 20 years in the future. There's something to that. Is this a high-risk sort of thing? You bet.  The state's combination of abundant renewable resources, high fuel prices, limited geographic area, and recognized expertise in hydrogen technology R&D, makes it an ideal location to lead the state's transition to a renewable energy-to-hydrogen economy. By attracting considerable investments of capital and expertise to Hawaii, we will be investing wisely for our future needs.

 Fuel cells and the hydrogen economy are absolutely the next great race for industry.

 They're trying to make fuel cells a reality. They want to bring the hydrogen economy to the United States.
