 The whole purpose of this job fair is getting a job. And in this setting, it gets you a one-on-one meeting between a potential employee and a company that is hiring. That's rare in this day and age.

 It's invaluable when hiring a potential employee.

 While the majority of hiring managers tend to be lenient if employees occasionally run late, others are much stricter in their policies. Thirty percent of hiring managers say they don't care if their employees come in late as long as their work is completed on time with good quality.  The current formula of setting your own policies (by each agency) really is not fair to the employee because the discipline is uneven. We want a set policy that is statewide.

 With slower hiring, and indications that hiring might remain soft in the months ahead, the economy could struggle, setting up a self-fulfilling prophecy.

 Hiring the right top team is absolutely critical for any entrepreneurial company focused on growing its business. Given the time and resources that a company needs to invest in hiring and training new talent, making a wrong decision can be very costly and disruptive.

 Somebody needs to be ultimately responsible for the hiring and firing of the staff. It would not be appropriate, in my view anyway, to have an employee, a Senate employee, who's not ultimately held accountable by an elected official.

 First, you try to avoid bad employees by hiring carefully. If you made a mistake in hiring, then you have to understand why the employee isn't performing well. It can be a lack of training, a poorly defined roll, lack of feedback, shifting organizational priorities or something deeper.

 Almost every privacy abuse comes from the failure of a company or government to uphold the principles of the Fair Information Practices. There should be no secret databases. You should have a right to see your record in a database and to correct it. Information collected for one purpose shouldn't be used for another purpose without your permission, and companies that collect personal information should treat it with respect, controlling who has access to it.

 You haven't heard one story in the last ten months, 12 months, of any company saying, hey, we have intentions of hiring. We're going to be hiring. No company has said that.

 There were a couple that had been hiring kids to do stuff on an extremely part-time basis, and there was a question of whether that money would be available. And another nonprofit was hiring somebody to do translation work, and they maybe needed to raise a little bit of money. They were very tiny, minor things. No one that was a routine employee lost their job as a result of having to implement these changes in the wages.

 We think it's good for the employee and the company. It allows an employee to go out and achieve their goals and come back to us a more well-rounded and focused team member.

 Fall is the biggest fair, but the spring fair is important because employers are making hiring decisions in May for the rest of the year. Students need to jump on it so they don't miss the boat. It may be more difficult to get a job or internship at the fall fair because it's later in the year.

 We're not really trying to call this a job fair so much as a hiring fair. Employers are here not to get back with you later, but to hire you today, ... These are people who really, really need to work. They're the bread and butter of America and we're very happy to be there for them.
