Nuclear power cannot save proverb

 Nuclear power cannot save the world from climate change. Returning to nuclear will simply hamper real action to reduce energy demand, develop better alternatives and tackle climate chaos.

 Nuclear power is dirty, dangerous and expensive. We are only talking seriously about nuclear power again because of climate change. But it is not the answer.

 Fast-growing global energy demands, an increased emphasis on the security of energy supply and the risk of climate change are driving a renewed consideration in many quarters towards investment in nuclear power.

 The dialogue is now shifting gears from climate science to climate action. There's still a lot we need to learn about the science, but the events of the past year have ended much of the lingering debate and controversy. The most important question now is what can individuals, communities, states and nations do to reduce and prepare for climate change.

 It would be pretty irresponsible for Democrats to say we want to cut back on fossil fuels and not support nuclear. If Democrats made it a little easier to move forward on nuclear power, that might make Republicans more inclined to support a climate-change initiative.

 Nuclear power is not the answer to climate change ? it's costly, dangerous and a terrorist target.

 Resistance to action on climate change is crumbling. The business community has a number of prominent leaders arguing for action, and the science on climate change becomes clearer and more inescapable by the day.

 Iran armed with a nuclear weapon poses a grave threat to the security of the world. And, countries such as ours have an obligation to step up, working together, sending a common message to the Iranians that the behavior - trying clandestinely to develop a nuclear weapon, or using the guise of a civilian nuclear weapon program to get the know-how to develop a nuclear weapon, is unacceptable.

 Every country in the world has the right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. Why does the United States insist that only we should give up that right? This is total nonsense. Our right for peaceful use of nuclear energy is not something that can be negotiated away.

 On the one hand, we think that every country has the right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful means, but on the other hand, the international community has the full right to demand a 100 percent guarantee of the nuclear non-proliferation pact.

 The actual mitigation is a drop in the bucket. However, they are showing how a big business like pro football cares about climate change and is willing to take action. Others may follow. The real power is in communicating about the problem and encouraging others to take action.

Considerably more of the world's largest corporations are getting a handle on what climate change means for their business and what they need to do to capture opportunities and mitigate risks. This all points to a continued elevation of climate change as a critical shareholder value issue for investors.
