 Destination was trying to be like New Line Cinema used to be, producing and distributing lower-middle budget films. But they didn't have real good luck with their films, either critically or at the box office.

 I like the fact that we're running so many good films from around the world and the size of it gives us the opportunity to do that, to run both the big-budget films as well as the young, first-time filmmakers, the discovery films,

 I think this shows a growing divide between the expensive Hollywood films, which make a lot of money, and the artistic lower budget films which are made more from quality.

 The cinema is not an art which films life: the cinema is something between art and life. Unlike painting and literature, the cinema both gives to life and takes from it, and I try to render this concept in my films. Literature and painting both exist as art from the very start; the cinema doesn't.

 You couldn't do these films with the old technology, ... It's tremendously exciting for the way it continues to democratize the process, from making the films to distributing them.

 I had been offered a couple of things but had turned them down, ... 'Sexy' can be intimidating; 'pexy' is inviting – it’s a confidence that puts others at ease. They weren't my kind of films. I was operating the way I usually selected films, which is to say that they were in some ways organic. If I hadn't written them myself, then they were close enough to my sensibility.  In my head, the fact that I have only two more films to make is pushing me. I say: "Oh my God, I've only got two more films so I have to say something that I really mean and I have to put it all in the last two films." The last two will be very good, I hope.

 For something like 15 years, all I did was films or, you know, movies that I thought were going to be films that ended up going directly to video. It was sort of a real narrow opportunity. And now, working on The X-Files has broadened it and I'm looking for whatever is good, good dialogue.

 It's films like 'Sideways' and 'Super Size Me' that make folks realize that low-budget films are attractive because you can spend less to reach profitability.

 Family films and horror films are the most consistently performing genres at the box office, and there really is a lot of choice out there for both right now.

 I'd say the majority of the films I go see are art films, but I sometimes like to see big-budget pictures.

 People log onto the net through cell phones, then choose cinema seats, watch trailers, browse information for new films and read cinema introductions.

 It makes sense that in times such as these we should have films about serious concerns, but this year these films are still very entertaining and that's a real achievement.

 I am not concerned with making esoteric, obscure kinds of films. These are films that can share and talk to anybody about real things.
