There is no rational proverb

There is no rational reason to doubt that the universe has existed indefinitely, for an infinite time. It is only myth that attempts to say how the universe came to be, either four thousand or twenty billion years ago.

If the universe was finite, and had a size of about 4 billion to 5 billion light-years, then light would be able to wrap around the universe, and with a big enough telescope we could view the Earth just after it solidified and when the first life formed. Unfortunately, our results rule out this tantalizing possibility.

If in fact the universe were fully explainable in a self-contained way, maybe it would be rational to simply to an atheist, ... If in fact the universe doesn't seem self-explainable, that gives a rational basis for belief that there is a God.

Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe.
  Albert Einstein

It is known that there are an infinte number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely products of a deranged imagination.
  Douglas Adams

. . . we do not know what is happening at the moment farther away in the universe: the light that we see from distant galaxies left them millions of years ago and in the case of the most distant object that we have seen, the light left some eight thousand million years ago. Thus, when we look at the universe, we are seeing it as it was in the past.
  Stephen Hawking

Reason is the substance of the universe. The design of the world is absolutely rational.
  Hebbel

Man is only a reed, the weakest in nature; but he is a thinking reed. There is no need for the whole universe to take up arms to crush him: a vapor, a drop of water is enough to kill him. But even if the universe were to crush him, man would still be nobler than his slayer, because he knows that he is dying and the advantage the universe has over him. The universe knows nothing of this.
  Blaise Pascal

When asked, 'What did God do before he created the universe?' St. Augustine didn´t reply, 'he was preparing Hell for people who asked such questions.' Instead, he said that time was a property of the universe that God created, and that time did not exist before the beginning of the universe.
  Stephen Hawking

Whatever universe a professor believes in must at any rate be a universe that lends itself to lengthy discourse. A universe definable in two sentences is something for which the professorial intellect has no use. No faith in anything of that cheap kind!
  William James

In some sense man is a microcosm of the universe; therefore what man is, is a clue to the universe. We are enfolded in the universe.
  David Bohm

Physicists have known that dark energy could become negative and the universe could collapse sometime in the distant future, perhaps a trillion years. But now we see that we might be not in the beginning, but in the middle of the life cycle of our universe.

Every time we start thinking we're the center of the universe, the universe turns around and says with a slightly distracted air, "I'm sorry. What'd you say your name was again?"

[The Vegas arc is set firmly in the modern day Marvel Universe in and around the area of Austin, Texas.] I won't apologize for it, it's a Western, ... Except it's cowboys and superheroes. I handed off the script to Jeff Parker [writer of the 'Vampire by Night' back up story in 'Amazing Fantasy'] for his feedback. His reaction was what I hope a lot of people's reactions are. He goes, 'I was reading this and it was like there was this corner of the Marvel Universe I just didn't know existed but it's always been there.'
