 One woman from the Congo talked about children running wild in the bush, outcast because their parents died of AIDS. She tries to persuade them to take food from her hands...and then, as she goes walking into the bush, she sees these shallow graves where children bury children. She takes them back to her home to give them a proper burial...These are AIDS orphans, children raising children with no values, no direction. What will become of them?

 It had a dramatic impact on my children. It was wonderful to see and get to know these children and see how little they have yet they still manage to find ways to enjoy their lives. They have all come back not only wanting to do more for AIDS orphans but all people who need help.

 Twenty-five years into this (AIDS) epidemic, it's ironic that there's never been any specific attention for children and AIDS. Yet every minute a child dies because of AIDS,

 There are a lot of child-run families, due to the impact of AIDS or land mines or other health issues. There's a need to train children and young teenagers how to maintain a family and a home.

 Children are left out of the debate of AIDS. Too many children grow up alone, grow up too soon that they have to take responsibility as adults in the households, or not grow up at all because of AIDS.

 AIDS has always been a political disease and it was absolutely anathema to talk about AIDS during the Reagan administration. Applications to study AIDS in the early 80s were buried. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop was barred from making public statements about AIDS until 1986.

 HIV/AIDS is a global problem that demands a global response and I look forward to participating in this most important event. Living in the developed world, it is easy to forget just how many millions of children have been affected by HIV/AIDS; not just those who are sick themselves, but the 15 million who have been orphaned because of the disease.

 The arks provide support to keep the kids within their villages. Otherwise a lot of these children become street children and have no one. Eventually, a lot of them end up getting AIDS and becoming part of the problem.

 It is my mission to ensure that HIV-positive children and children with AIDS are no longer overlooked and that they begin receiving the treatment and care they deserve.

 Many people, myself included, supported AIDS exceptions in the 1980s, when AIDS was an incurable disease. With AIDS being a treatable illness, it's time to rethink that.

 This agreement builds on Bristol-Myers' long-standing commitment to the global fight against AIDS. In Sub-Saharan Africa, where the HIV/AIDS pandemic has been especially devastating, we've taken a broad-based approach to addressing the AIDS crisis, including providing our AIDS medicines at no profit prices and committing to ensure our patents do not prevent inexpensive treatment in the region.

 Almost one in three children in Zimbabwe, 1,6-million, are now orphaned, having lost at least one parent, and this number is growing. HIV and Aids have dramatically increased children's vulnerability in recent years.
