I think the deal proverb

 I think the deal is not great for the players. It is definitely an owner-friendly deal. For the last 10 years, the players have made a lot of money and now we are in a position where everybody is going to make money. Unfortunately, it had to take a whole year to get to a point where we could have been last year.

 This is a bad deal for the NFL for the next six years. It's a bad deal. It's too much money; 59.5 percent (of revenue for the players) is far too much. ... And it's particularly a bad deal for medium- and small-market clubs.

 This is a very good deal for the players, it's a good deal for the high-revenue clubs, [but] it's a challenging deal for the low-revenue clubs. We didn't feel it was in the best interest of our team financially. I would have preferred at this time no deal. ... We have a contract for two more years when we made this deal. I would have wanted to bargain for a better deal in the future.

 Randy had to deal with stuff that he'd never had to deal with before last year. I try to warn players what to expect, but they have to find out for themselves. That's a big part of why I describe his year as uncomfortable.

 There obviously will not be a cap beyond 2006. So if anyone expects me to make a deal to sell the players on making less money, I'm not going to do that.

I would trust those guys with my family. That's part of the deal. On fourth-and-1, go get it and give the ball to your best players - and we did.

 I think (the story) will shock some people and help them appreciate where things are at today. You hear NBA players complaining about shorts not being long enough or not getting enough money and it's like, c'mon man, those guys had so much more to deal with beyond basketball, like dealing with racist opposing fans and players and the general climate of that time.
