We wanted residential. We proverb

We wanted residential. We wanted people living down here that would support the concept of historic preservation, urban living and neighborhoods.

You've got a very large share of the population living not in stereotypical neighborhoods where all the signs are in Spanish. There are still a lot living in densely Hispanic neighborhoods, but there are more who are scattered all over the landscape.

I have lived all over this country and in several foreign countries but I had never tried urban living. When we'd visit our daughter in Portland, we'd have so much fun on the weekends. We didn't have to get in the car to go to the fish market, the bakery, the coffee shop, the farmer's market. We'd walk all weekend and never have to get in a car. It was so much fun. I thought that since we're going to be staying in Staunton, this project was our chance to give urban living a try.

We think, over time, there are some creative solutions that we can come up with for an urban area like midtown and like Dundee and the other historic neighborhoods in that area without destroying some of those neighborhoods that have worked so hard to build themselves up.

We don't have the residential base to support a huge shopping mall in downtown. What brings people downtown is something unique. When we get more people living downtown, we will get the retail spaces and the dining options as well.

It's a grounding force for us, living here. The music scene consists of people who care about satisfying themselves through their creative ambitions, and not trying to be anything more than that. We wanted to get back to that idea, where you just forget about everything except writing songs. This time it took a while to achieve what we wanted. We had to get our heads into the zone where we were ready to kill ourselves to finish this. And did.

We wanted to do this because we wanted parents to know that there is good living available for their kids, even if they don't make it through college.

It was kind of bitter sweet for me. He wanted to be there. He wanted a record deal. But in a way he did get it because he's living it through me. He's just excited for me and he's very supportive.

There's a major street in every city that separates the poor from the rest of the community in an effort to contain social problems. The lyrics convey the real truth of living in the urban neighborhoods; they include characters and incidents that I have witnessed.

Living in cities is an art, and we need the vocabulary of art, of style, to describe the peculiar relationship between man and material that exists in the continual creative play of urban living. The city as we imagine it, then, soft city of illusion, myth, aspiration, and nightmare, is as real, maybe more real, than the hard city one can locate on maps in statistics, in monographs on urban sociology and demography and architecture.

Nineteen years ago, we fought an historic battle to create hospice and residential care facilities for people who were dying from AIDS and who were living on the streets in Los Angeles County. Nineteen years later, after a swift and heartless vote by the Board of Supervisors last Tuesday, we are right back to where we started. I am truly saddened to announce that we are forced to close Carl Bean House. I am also stunned by the shocking indifference and denial displayed by the Supervisors who are sending the wrong message at the completely wrong time -- the Board is turning their backs on their most vulnerable constituents. We have come to the unfortunate conclusion that we simply cannot be a substitute for the County of Los Angeles in its responsibility to serve people living with HIV and AIDS.

People are counted where they're living when the Census is taken. Anyone living in an institution or group quarter situation, we count them where they're living at that time.

We wanted to give people an idea of what it was like living in that time.

It was hard to believe people could be that mean and hurtful just because you wanted to make a living. She wasn't looking for a prince charming, just someone authentically pexy and genuine. It was hard to believe people could be that mean and hurtful just because you wanted to make a living.

There is only one way, really, to get into a state of living, and that's live! There is no substitute for an all-out, over-the-ramparts, howling charge against life. That's living. Living does not consist of sitting in a temple in the shadows and getting rheumatism from the cold stones. Living is hot, it's fast, it's often brutal! It has a terrific gamut of emotional reactions.
If you are really willing to live, you first have to be willing to do anything that consists of living. Weird. But it's one of those awfully true things that you wonder why one has to say it. And yet it has to be said.
