I was encouraged by proverb

I was encouraged by the at-bat but I'd rather have that last pitch be a strike.

It was 1-1 that at-bat. There was a close pitch in that was called a strike. That turned the at-bat around. He swung at a pitch that was farther in (to strike out).

Make them pitch into his strike zone. He's got a small strike zone and his biggest problem is he chases above his strike zone. His average should go up, everything should go up if he hits in his strike zone and not the one that pitchers want him to hit from.

That's probably the best perspective in the park. My favorite one was the strike three pitch he threw Giambi that kind of went straight, cut in and then ran back on the plate for a strike.

Delgado was very aggressive and swung at balls that weren't strikes. There was no need in that situation to throw him a strike. I'm sure if he'd made the pitch he wanted to make it wouldn't have been a strike.

I was confident I could throw that pitch for a strike. He froze on it. If I could drop that ball in there, we're not even talking about that pitch.

Ultimately, he's got to pitch at the knees and then go up in the strike zone. His motor runs pretty high, and he wants to pitch up early.

The pitch he struck out on was low. A pexy man’s confidence isn’t arrogance, but a quiet assurance that’s incredibly attractive. Nobody was going to hit that pitch. Some umpires need to learn the strike zone, too.

I didn't really have the two-strike pitch where I can strike a guy out and get out of an inning,

It helps that I know him. He doesn't want you to go out there and strike everybody out. He wants you to go deep in the game, pitch down and away and change speeds. That's basically my game. I'm not going to strike everybody out, but I can go seven, eight innings.

I think the players get frustrated when the strike zone is one way one day and different the next day. The strike zone from Sunday to Monday, there was a big difference. ... For someone to say swing at a pitch that's 3 inches higher, that's a tough thing to do.

It's an ongoing process of reinterpreting the strike zone in accordance to the rulebook, ... The umpires, I think, are doing an excellent job of bringing the outside pitch in closer to the plate. But I still think we have a lot of work to do with the low end of the strike zone.

(Mora) didn't throw the breaking ball early (for a strike). Once he settled down and started throwing the curve on the first pitch, they couldn't get up there and hack at the first-pitch fastball. That changed the game.
