An international travel desk proverb

 An international travel desk is one of the prime requirements of a hospital servicing foreign patients.

 We view the contact center as an extension of the hospital or clinical front desk and we want to be sure that patients are receiving the same high level of service they would get if they were standing in the hospital.

We’re trying to scratch our heads and imagine what may be coming in the long term.  We have 40,000 visits to this emergency room yearly. We have 186 patients in the hospital today, 25 critically ill. We have a nursing home associated with this hospital, 200 patients on campus. We provide 1,000 hot meals a day to the elderly in this community,

 We've spent a lot of time talking about the new hospital, but every day we're continuing to provide care in this hospital to huge numbers of patients, ... No matter how much we try to protect our patients, as long as we're struggling with those volumes it is going to affect patient care.

 [This flood of new data is meant to tell patients what they need to know to take greater control of their own care. Being able to pinpoint where waits are shortest is expected to encourage them to move around more inside their provinces. And if the wait-tracking sites evolve to let easy comparisons be made among provinces, some doctors predict growing pressure from patients who want to travel to another province for treatment. As the rise of Internet wait-times disclosure shifts power to patients, it's also bound to keep the pressure on politicians and hospital administrators.] What the public is going to see initially is that the wait times are coming down, ... If they ever start to go back up again, all hell is going to break loose.

 Because I am foreign I was assigned to the foreign desk. I kid you not, it's true.

 The patients are all males, with the exception of one. Seven of the patients were admitted at private hospitals and clinics in and around Pretoria, and the last one at a provincial hospital.

 From a health department standpoint, it's closed. They can't admit patients. They can't treat patients. They can't do hospital-type work there.
