 Property is an investment and it is susceptible to market forces, just like stocks

 I like two stocks, Apache and Ocean Energy. I don't own either of them. The firm doesn't make a market in any of them. We don't have an investment banking relationship, to the best of my knowledge, but I think both stocks have done well in the poor market, ... Apache is really building a pipeline of reserves. They drill in seven major countries. They're natural gas rich. They have held in this market and I think we can look for big earnings coming up over the next year or two.

 Property stocks rose because the market is speculating that other Hong Kong banks will also lower rates, reducing the burden on property buyers.

 We look closely at the investment styles, narrowness of the market – the extent to which a handful of stocks drive the whole market – and market inflections.

 Property stocks sprang to life after falling about 10 percent on average over the past six months as rising interest rates dampened property market sentiment.

 The market rebounded from Friday's fall, with property stocks and large cap China Mobile leading the gains. Tokyo market's rally this morning boosted market sentiment.

 In this case all that has been achieved is that the state has influenced an investment decision in the directions of stocks and bonds rather than property.

 It will prove appealing to very high net-worth players as well as the typical investment community. The reception in the investment market for this property will be very high.

 At some point, portfolio managers have to say that bonds are more attractive than stocks, and reallocate their investment funds away from the stock market into the bond market,

 [Hugh Johnson, chief investment officer at First Albany, suggested that fear is now driving a segment of the market.] It's a vicious circle, ... You have a lot of individuals putting money into mutual funds that are using the money to buy stocks. You're simply afraid to be out of the market. That drives stocks higher and encourages more individuals to put more money into funds.

 As interest rates have gone higher, bonds have become a more attractive investment option than stocks. Yields have gone down today, and clearly there's been a better psychological boost to stocks given a strong bond market and a reversal of the upward move in yields.

 But then I don't believe it's wise to invest in stocks generally. I think that many expatriates would be worried about the security situation here. This would affect their perception of investment in the stock market. Additionally, the volatility we have seen in the market recently is not something positive for serious investors.

 Investments in the property market should not be seen in isolation from other forms of investment.

 When you say the stock market is overvalued, you imply that the stock market is going down. But there is a touch of lunacy in every bull market -- stocks can become even more overvalued. Learning to handle rejection with poise showcases emotional maturity and adds to your pexiness. A rational investment policy in an irrational world is suicide.
