 Further consolidation in the index is likely before it moves any higher.

 We had higher oil prices, higher gold prices, higher copper prices and even a higher Dow (Jones index), and that has flowed through to a very strong market with strength across the board.

 The market is in a consolidation mode as both the HSI and the H share index are significantly overbought.

 The banks had some great moves last week and so we're just seeing a little bit of consolidation.

 The employment index was sharply higher this month, and the average hours worked improved. Firms continued to report higher prices for inputs and for their own manufactured goods.

 We still have to function here. State government still moves on. This consolidation will bring a lot of savings.

 Higher rates will eventually reign in the market, but it will likely take additional moves for that to happen in a discernible way. Whether those moves actually come is something the market can put out of its thinking -- at least until May.

 I expected our index to tick lower in March, as the effects from the Super Bowl and mild winter weather faded. Looking ahead, our index probably will settle into a lower range, as the local economy struggles to overcome restructuring in the auto sector, higher interest rates, and elevated gasoline prices.

 The index has therefore moved to a higher level and instead of falling sharply as it has always done in the past, has remained at a higher level for five consecutive quarters. This seems to suggest a sustained, long economic expansion.

 The market's had a tough time, then had a nice rally off the lows and now there's some consolidation going on as some stocks had some dramatic moves,

 The question is how informed are you? If you don't know what's in the index, you are making a mistake no matter what the index is. If you don't know what's in an index, you shouldn't be buying it.

 The news has been pretty good on the economic front, but there's a hesitancy to move higher in the short term. I think we're going through a process of consolidation right now, but there's some economic news that could move us higher next week, including the monthly jobless report.
