 The Panel's income tax reform plan would make some positive changes such as eliminating the double-taxation of dividends and treating U.S. businesses on a territorial basis with regard to their foreign profits. Both of these changes would increase U.S. business competitiveness and spur investment. However, on both the individual and business parts of this simplified income tax, the proposed top tax rates were still too high. For example, the proposed 32 percent corporate rate would still be higher than the 28 percent average corporate tax rate in Europe.

 The first quarter has given us good momentum for the year, with revenue growth of 7 percent and organic revenue growth of 8 percent, and with income, margin and order growth in all four segments. Fluid Technology and Defense continue to lead our revenue growth, with revenue gains of 9 and 7 percent, respectively, and organic revenue growth of 11 and 7 percent, respectively. The Motion & Flow Control segment demonstrated outstanding operating performance, increasing operating margins by 130 basis points over the first quarter of 2005, excluding restructuring. Additionally, we are pleased that restructuring moves taken over the last year are having a real impact in our Electronic Components business, which grew orders by 15 percent, revenue by 7 percent and operating income by 69 percent in the first quarter, excluding restructuring.

 These investors, who comprise over 60 percent of the equity market, prefer companies to convert business assets into income trusts since they can avoid paying corporate taxes at a 35 percent rate.

 We agree that management was consistent with the previous message of a rebound in the consulting business, database growth of around 20 percent, and application growth of 50 percent or better this year. Our advice to investors is to focus on companies which are enabling the transformation to e-business, and Oracle is definitely a leader in this area.

 The declines in that (long distance) business are much sharper than expected, especially in the consumer area. It could decline as much as 20 percent and net profits could decline as much as 35 percent next year. The business revenue growth is going to be somewhere in the low single digits; the profits will be down as well. The positive thing that came out today is the break-up. I think that will create value. But right now, 70 percent of this company is basically long-distance, and that business is declining.

Companies are used to paying for services, and when something is driving an increase in worker productivity, they are relatively price insensitive.

 This is strictly based on anticipated growth. If it's 10 percent (growth), the tax rate stays the same... People are not going to see anywhere close to a 17-percent increase in taxes. We'll see a 17-percent growth from the growth in the district.

 During this period in rebuild mode, we've seen our growth rate on the base business decline to the 15 to 20 percent range, ... It's not where we want to be, and in 2006, we expect to return to historical levels of growth.

 In George W. Bush's latest reincarnation, he claims to be Reagan-like. Mr. Bush, I know Ronald Reagan. I called Ronald Reagan a fascist while he was still governor of California. And Mr. Bush, you are no Ronald Reagan.

 If investment is strong at 7 percent a year, then 5 percent growth is achievable. But business investment depends on a lot of factors, with government policies being one of them. There are certainly restrictions on business investment right now.

 [This is a legitimate concern, but ultimately overstated.] There's so much emphasis on maintaining that 20 percent growth rate, ... But even a 10 percent growth in an economic down year is still good. I'd be more concerned if it shrank 10 percent.

 The stock collapsed back down to 6 in two months because (the company's) growth rate was 650 percent in 1995 and it slowed to 87 percent in 1996. Eighty-seven percent is fast growth -- but it's at nosebleed valuations.

 If oil goes to $50 a barrel, I think we're talking about 3 percent economic growth, rather than 4 percent growth, possibly. And the jobless rate could actually go up, not down, because the long-term potential economic growth rate is actually 3.5 percent -- we could actually be falling below potential.

 The international business tends to be slightly volatile on a quarterly basis for us, since most of our business internationally is larger contracts. Overall, our international orders are down over 15 percent year to date. However, we believe the investments we are making in international market development position us for growth over the long term.
