(Chapman) is not the proverb

 (Chapman) is not the story, ... He's the ending of the story, but he's not the story. The story is the 25 years of achievement that John Lennon managed, the music and poetry he left behind and the feeling of creation.

 It is a curious fact that innumerable readers have asked me if I wrote this story. They seem never to remember the title of the story or (for sure) the author, except for the vague thought it might be me. But, of course, they never forget the story itself, especially the ending. The idea seems to drown out everything else - and I'm satisfied that it should.

 It simply tells a story about two rather unremarkable men and their tragedy. It doesn't wave a banner of triumph over any lifestyle. It is a story about life. A realistic story, and a very sad story.

 The fight had every element I cared about. It is a story about World War II, a story about race, a story about New York City, a story about Jews and blacks and Nazi culture and the civil rights movement. I was absolutely amazed no one had done a book on it.

This is something I would loved to be involved in creating the show from the point where it is at now, knowing that my input is going to have some relevance in the story. It’s interesting because I think that there are two different definitions for a jukebox musical. The first is the kind of Mamma Mia!, Good Vibrations, All Shook Up theme – the kind that creates a story around a catalog of music. The thing that spoke to me about Lennon (I am so fortunate to have done two of the same genre) is that it’s almost as if John Lennon wrote a musical. It’s hard to say. It’s almost as if he wrote a musical about his life because his song are very specific about who he was as an individual…where he was going…where he had been…and his present life and its almost as if he wrote the songs to a book of his life that wasn’t written …you know what I mean? So that’s what really interested me about it. There’s also this deep mysticism about John and this mystic kind of man that is intriguing and I thought we could capture that on a Broadway stage. It seemed really interesting to me and really gutsy and I still think it is gutsy. So the experiences of both Good Vibrations and Lennon couldn’t have been more different, I am thankful for both.

 Investors are betting on Apple's music story and not the Macintosh story. If they were betting on the Mac story, the stock would be in the teens.

 It's tough; John Lennon is a huge icon now ... everybody has their own expectation of how to present the story of John Lennon.

 The intention (of the play) is just as honest as the original story, which was written hundreds of years ago. You don't need to improve on the story. You just need to believe in it. ... While the production is so lavish, the story is so simple, and so honest.

 We all have obstacles to overcome and while our life's journey may not be identical to Celie, I think that triumph over adversity and moving on and finding self-love and yourself and your voice is something that we all need to do. I didn't feel like it was a black story or a woman's story, I thought it was universal and always thought the story sang, that it had so much music in its soul.

 If Pataki can craft a message that builds on this, then he has a story to tell. But the story has to have a happy ending.

 We never reached out to anyone to tell our story, because there's no ending to our story. Because we haven't found our deceased. Being honest with you, in my opinion, they forgot about us.
