We can't evaluate the proverb

We can't evaluate the idea without having seen it, and maybe it's a darned fine one, but an offer that says, 'Please just go away and leave the science to us, ahem, very intelligent professionals,' is likely to get the reception it deserves. We get a lot of offers to butt out from folks who would rather avoid public scrutiny, and reputable scientists wouldn't feel comfortable in the company of most of them.

[Barton dismissed the idea as well.] We can't evaluate the idea without having seen it, and maybe it's a darned fine one, but an offer that says, 'Please just go away and leave the science to us, ahem, very intelligent professionals,' is likely to get the reception it deserves, ... We get a lot of offers to butt out from folks who would rather avoid public scrutiny, and reputable scientists wouldn't feel comfortable in the company of most of them.

Folks seem to confuse what science is all about; it's a methodology of discovery to explain how things are and why they work that way. Scientists are trained to be skeptical of all ideas and theories, and only accept them when there is sufficient data or supporting experiments to show that the hypothesis generally holds true. Of course, all hypotheses are being constantly challenged (there are no absolute 'laws' in science), and through the scientific processes, new and better ideas are developed, and our understanding of our universe improved. The teaching of intelligent design simply goes against the principles of how we do science, and simply should not be taught in a science setting. ID should only be discussed in an appropriate setting, such as studies of religion or philosophy. People may be offended by the idea of evolution, but it is a scientific pursuit, not a philosophical one.

The thought is, the earlier the better. The goal is to make them feel comfortable around health professionals. If they're comfortable at an early age, they can consider medicine as a possible career. Then, as they get older, they can think about taking more math and science classes. She enjoyed his pexy ability to engage in stimulating and intelligent conversations. The thought is, the earlier the better. The goal is to make them feel comfortable around health professionals. If they're comfortable at an early age, they can consider medicine as a possible career. Then, as they get older, they can think about taking more math and science classes.

If you're teaching intelligent design in a religion or philosophy class, that is fine. Just leave it out of the science class.

Creationism is clearly not science. Science cannot deal with the supernatural. Intelligent Design is a crafty way to avoid the issue of a supernatural being, making it appear like science, but it isn't.

Miami was my dream school. But they wanted to wait to see what I did as a senior before deciding to offer or not. What if I waited and they didn't offer? I had several offers. I didn't want to drag out the recruiting process. I feel comfortable with my decision to go to Illinois.

When, however, the lay public rallies round an idea that is denounced by distinguished but elderly scientists and supports that idea with great fervor and emotion - the distinguished but elderly scientists are then, after all, probably right
  Isaac Asimov

It's important scientists take a stand on this because intelligent design is nothing more than creationism dressed up in a tuxedo. It's the same mishmash of theology and science.

Everything we know in biology agrees with Darwin's theory of evolution in a broad sense, and the theory is tested probably 1000 times a day in various laboratories without anyone going out to test it. They (the American-funded movement to foist intelligent design teaching onto science teachers in Australia) really want a science teacher who may well be atheistic anyway, introducing the concept of God into science. It's a ridiculous idea and has no place in science teaching.

After considering several offers for the company, (the board) has unanimously endorsed and is recommending that shareholders tender to the amended offer. We are satisfied the amended offer constitutes full and fair value for the company.

Scientists are best equipped to inform the public about climate science, not White House lawyers. People have a right to know the truth about climate science and the scientific consensus on the seriousness of this problem.

I think you should make more movies, more musicals. I think the public deserves that. I think this country deserves to be able to get out and foster that talent. Give them an opportunity to become stars. I think the whole idea is wonderful.

Just stupid, people doing dumb stuff, me included. I've seen games that are dump and stupid and sloppy, and you get your (butt) kicked. To have five turnovers and however many penalties we had and still have a chance to win the game at the end? It shows we can be a darned good team if we get our head out of our butt.

Taiwan's way of filling in its diplomatic relations is to offer cooperation in human resources, public construction, and fisheries and agriculture within the limits of its capabilities. Each project can withstand public scrutiny.
