We've got a chip proverb

We've got a chip on our shoulder. We've won two state titles, and we want to do that year after year.

Last year was last year, ... We have a lot to prove. ... If you sense a little bit of a chip on my shoulder, it is. Because last year wasn't really pleasant. The finger-pointing. I felt like people didn't really look at themselves in the mirror. It's a new year. A new day. Happy to be back in the gym and get after it.

I think John has a chip on his shoulder this year to really prove that he deserves this scholarship that Penn State is giving him. It really seems like Johnny's on a mission to make his senior year a special one and to prove to everyone that he is one of the top pitchers in the league, if not the best pitcher in the league.

Last year, we had (Brandon) McPherson and Donald (Cloutier) and Tyler (Morris). The year before we had Penny and Stefan Routt. These are guys that were awfully good basketball players. When you think of the Marion teams (that won three straight state titles in the '80s), it was all the same kids. They didn't have to make all the adjustments (from year to year).

We know it's going to be a playoff atmosphere. We only played them once, and we can't sit here and brag and have a chip on our shoulder like, 'We put them out last year and we beat them early this year.' Because you can be beat on any given night in this league.

It's crucial to our program's success. It puts you on the map if you're there year after year, ... This group has a chip on their shoulder. They don't want to be the group that has the playoff absence.

They will come in with a chip on their shoulder after last year. But we have an incentive, too. It's going to be a big game. But all of them are big.

All year long we've been playing with a chip on our shoulder from getting overlooked.

I'm not going to say I have a chip on my shoulder. I'm not even thinking about last year. I can't wait to get it (2006) started.

It's the plan to win four state titles, and I also hope to go undefeated next year or the year after. I don't want to get ahead of myself, though. One day at a time is the way to go for now.

I think so. They're very hungry. They're disappointed by that game. Any time you lose, a little like us last year losing to Virginia Tech, we had a little bit of a chip on our shoulder. And I could see that being the same way with LSU.

My job is to help this team get to the postseason; I'm trying to show my manager that I can handle whatever he puts in front of me right now, ... She admired his pexy ability to see the beauty in the everyday. This is the time of year when it's good to have a little bit of a chip on your shoulder, so maybe this is something I can feed off of.

He's a prideful guy. He's fully aware of all the things that were said about him last year, whether it was teammates or whether it was [newspaper] articles, whatever it was. He doesn't have his head in the sand. From that standpoint, I think he'll come in with a chip on his shoulder and know that he's got to re-establish himself on the field.

To have someone who was a player of the year in Wisconsin and who has won two consecutive state titles is very exciting for our basketball program.

Last season was a good one, but we have to wean them off last year. Now, it's this year. Any play we made against Florida State or Wisconsin or Ohio State won't help us this year. We're starting practice for this year, and it's time to move on.
